I like raiding and PvP. I'm sure crafting is a joy but I don't want to go anywhere near it. While trying to itemize my gear I need to remove materia. Why isn't there an NPC to do this for us. Or let me pay other crafters to remove it for me.

There is a NPC, over in the Bonfire area, that will remove *all* the Materia from an item. If that is the one that caused you to mention needing a level 19 crafter, sorry, I don't know what his requirements are (I'm 60 in all crafters) I only know that he's the only one out there.
Greetings,
Currently, in order to remove materia from melded gear you must have completed the "Waking the Spirits" quest which requires having a level 19 or higher crafting class. In Patch 3.3, we'll be changing the requirement for this quest so that it can be accepted and completed by any class/job higher than level 19. Once you have completed this quest, you will be able to remove materia by speaking to Mutamix Bubblypots.
Awesome Thank you!
Thanks for this info
Lol why is this even a thing getting to lv 19 crafter is nothing lol
To me, it's really annoying to be in a raid or dungeon where someone's gear breaks & they can't repair. I *hate* crafting but I made sure to get all mine to level 50 ASAP because, to me, that's an essential part of the game. I'm still levelling to 60 for HW because I know that in the future I will need it to repair gear (possibly in 4.x).
I forgive people who are just starting out or have only played on one class but to have end tier raiders (lv50+) without a repair ability is ridiculous, in my opinion.
Unlike the removal of materia, which absolutely requires crafting, repairing gear is as simple as finding the nearest mender. It can be a bummer if a repair becomes necessary while in a dungeon or raid instance.
As a solution, I'd welcome the addition of a 'vendor/mender' that could be temporarily summoned in such circumstances.
I think that repairing gear to 150% status should remain a perk for leveling crafting.
Honestly it makes sense to have a level19 crafter to remove materia. It is a crafting aspect of the game, and level 19 takes nothing to get, maybe 30 minutes of quick synth's.
