Why do people want Blue Mage in this game?

It just wouldn't work not in this type of game.
I mean sure we could have it but with how you earn abilities in this game the blue mage job would be butchered and be a very heavy downgrade

How about we go over what the Blue Mage is all about.
The Blue Mage gets all of his/her magic spells from enemies by being attacked when they cast a skill you can learn

And there's tons of spells you can learn.

How do you earn skills in XIV? you level up or get them from job quests
And should Blue Mage ever be in this game you'd just be learning skills from Job quests

No actual chance of discovering skills yourself.

It honeslty sounds like the only people asking for it are Ex- WoW players just discovering that there's more games than just Final Fantasy XIV and they're echoing what they've seen on the Final Fantasy wiki or something. Please don't let this game butcher such an awesome job.

You can learn monster skills from hunts.

When it's added, it'll be butchered like most of the classic FF jobs

most of the enemy skills in this game are lame anyway and the cooler stuff are from bosses, which would be nerfed for player use if we could ever use them.

The Gun Mage in X-2 had two separate "trees." One done by the normal leveling up and then the actual Blue Magic learned from enemies. They could implement something like that. But I don't know how it'd translate to one of the roles. It's mainly a DPS class, but it's two signature moves are White Wind and Mighty Guard. And for that matter, how would we get the monsters to cast it on us? Unless the Blue Mage comes with a confuse or manipulate skill.

Or the devs could, you know, adapt the existing cross-class skills system to facilitate the learning and slotting of various monster abilities similarly to FFXI. What exactly is stopping them building a new system for learning monster abilities OUTSIDE of their usual job skills? There's already precedent for this in how SMNs learn to summon Garuda and Ifrit.

Except that's a completely appropriate reaction to the comment.

And BLU is about a lot more than "how do I get my skills?" It's about how the job would play once you do. If anything, that might be where it falls apart within 14's framework.
