Courel RP

Hey there, I've recently switched to this game from WOW and I was wondering if my server had any active role play scene? In WOW there were guilds and groups entirely dedicated to role playing events and immersive role playing where pretty much everything you did in game was acted out in character with the group.

My question, does this game have anything like that and have I fanned myself for not playing on Balmung or Gilgamesh for actually having a dedicated rp player community? As this is the part of the hand I mainly play for and want to spend time doing.

Balmung is essentially the Moon Guard of FFXIV.

However, that is not necessarily a bad thing. Sure, people might instantly call the server out for the more questionable forms of RP that take place there, but like Moon Guard, there is actually decent RP to be found if you know how to look for it.

I don't have enough information on Gilgamesh to make an accurate comparison.

Well, there is definitely a dedicated role-playing community in the game (they even have a website, found here), and they're indeed mostly found on Balmung, but I think role-playing in general is considered more laid back here in FFXIV, in that you're free pretty much to do it on any server to the level you wish - there are no official role-playing servers (at least, none specifically designated by SE themselves as such), Balmung and Gilgamesh were just chosen by the players to be that.

But yeah, if you really want to experience role-playing in this game, Balmung is definitely the place for it, but you're completely free to do it on any server, you just might find it more difficult to find someone else to role play your character's story and stuff with on another server. Courel might be particularly difficult due to being (from my understanding) a server with a much smaller population so there would be a far smaller 'pool' of interested players there, but anything is possible! :)

If worse did come to worst though, you are always free to transfer your character to another server (such as Balmung) - it just costs a one-off fee to do so however. Either way, don't feel you are 'trapped' on a server, because you are not, you can transfer to another one if you so wish. :)
