Why does my retainer have more elemental resistance than myself?

I know it's a useless thing to complain about, but why is this a thing?

Retainers are badarses. My level 15 retainer was bringing me primal weapons... They are more hardcore than us... ; ;

And 99% of the duty finder players if mine was able to get me a T13 item.

Might have something to do with Racial bonuses, but only a guess.

Obviously your retainer chose Bahamut for his god!

Then every lala player I know would have the same resistances.

I know equipment doesn't have an effect on that but is it the same if you unequip all gear on your retainer? Maybe there's some back end modifiers on gear that doesn't effect player characters

My other retainer is an Au Ra miner that has zero accessories and he has the exact same elemental resist stats as my lala WHM.
