Desynthesis of HW gear

Is there something special about HW gear that makes the ilevel irrelevant when it comes to desynthesis? The Archaeoskin crafting gear is lvl51 i65 but has a <10% desynth rate at desynth level ~85 whereas lvl50 i90 is >60%.

It really throws up problems with levelling as there's a huge gulf where desynthesis levels are unduly low because of this mysterious change in how ilevel relates to desynth level. Does anyone know of a site or calculation that accounts for this change?

The level required to equip gear means nothing in desynthesis, only the ilvl matters. It used to be much worse, they eased the gap you're stuck around 3.1.

Read my post again. That's *exactly* what I said. Ilevel 90 gear that can be equipped at level 50 is *easier* to desynth than ilevel 65 gear that can be equipped at level 51. Once you reach Heavensward the ilevel system fails, at least for leatherworker from what I've seen. That's my point.

My Weaver's desynth skill is 150 and still has trouble with the ramie gear, as I've botched it several times even though my desynth skill is higher than the ilv of the ramie. Can't tell you why.

Crafter/gatherer gear has different ilvls from battle gear, due to when it was released in relation to battle gear. ilvl 70 DoL/DoH came out at the same time as crafted ilvl 110 DoW/DoM gear, and they capped about the same.

You are confusing the level (lvl), item level (ilvl) and the hidden Level used for desynth that we call "rLevel". Please read the desynthesys guide to understand that.
As side note, hw items begin with rlevel 115 though those are level 51 or ilvl 65.

Ah, that's exactly what I was looking for. It confirms that ilevel only applies to things that are pre-HW & that you can't use ilevel for 3.x items. I suspected that was the situation but many guides simply state that ilevel is what relates to desynthesis.
