Question about assigning retainers a job.

I currently have 2 lv 60 GLA retainers. If I make them a DRK will they start at lv 30, or will they start at lv 60 since they're currently GLA 60 and I have a 60 DRK?

Can't answer the first question since I don't know, but for the second question the main change is that you'll be able to equip Job-only gear (Eso and otherwise) to them which generally gives them higher stats and iLvls. Higher stats on retainers means they will bring you more and better items back from ventures, typically.

Switched my GLA to DRK, and they were 60.

Well, that's strange. I thought retainers couldn't be jobs, and it was my understanding that changes to their class restarted them from the beginning. Learn something new every day.

Retainers: Achieve level 50 with any Disciple of War or Magic.
Players: Achieve level 50 with the desired job.

For the original jobs:

Quote:

Paladin / Warrior / Monk / Dragoon / Ninja / Bard / Black Mage / Summoner / White Mage / Scholar
Retainers: Achieve level 30 with the associated class.
Players: Achieve level 50 with the desired job.

Example:
Assigning your retainer the paladin job:
Your retainer must achieve level 30 with gladiator.
You must achieve level 50 with paladin.
