Player housing questions
Heya,
So I'm approaching the soft-cap (level 50) and I've begun to explore other aspects of the game like housing. I looked some stuff up and I can buy my own house (for a ton of gil) or be apart of a Free Company and use the FC estate.
I was wondering if being able to customize your Inn room (or having your retainers chill out in the Inn or your player house) was every talked about within SE? I've been reading some feedback on single player housing where the problem with is is demand and sever space. If Inn's are already personal instances, why not convert them to apartments rather than a home? Or have an apartment-like complex versus a yard with a home?
I'm sorry if this is lame, but it feels like a problem that could have a simple solution of expanding the idea of housing to condos or apartments. I've gotten the impression that SE is *really* into making everything lore-friendly (which is awesome!)

I should point out, Joining a FC allows you to purchase a personal room within the House for 300k gil, this would be the customizable apartment you are looking for. As far as personal housing, depends on the type of player you are; if you are a loner, or need personal gardening plots to use at your convienience, or are a roleplayer and a house fits your story, by all means go for it. If you're more of a team player, either don't care about or don't mind a gardening plot schedule, the FC house with your own personal room will be more than enough and probably save you at the least 9.7 million gil.

That makes sense. I was wondering just how all of that works. I'm nearish level 40 and I already have a little over 250,000 gil (...unless I spent some of it last night when I was drinking, but I swear that was a dream...) so I suppose it's time to find an FC.
I was reading about inactive housing plots and demolitions, if the FC is inactive but 1 (or 2) ARE active, does that remove the idea of having your FC house demolished?
-
Don't quote me, but an inactive FC leader loses the rank after a set amount of time they do not log in, the lead goes to the next in rank I believe. Housing requires just one player in the FC to enter the house once every 44 days, so it's very hard to lose an FC house unless everyone is very inactive or those that are active do not enter the house even once on a monthly basis.

They talked about adding apartments to Ishgard housing when that's released. Instanced versions of private housing with all of the key features like gardening available. Basically what the entire system should have been in the first place.

So long as any player from a FC sticks there enters the house once every 45 days then a FC house will not be demolished. If a house is in danger of being reclaimed, then SE will send emails to the leader of the FC. In the case of a personal house the owner is emailed. The biggest draw back to a FC room is that if you are kicked from a FC you forfeit your room fee and any one-time placed items (wallpapers, fixtures, and a few furniture pieces). The rest of your items will be stored for you by an NPC for 30 days. There is a new apartment housing system in the works, which is basically the FC rooms independent of FCs, but that probably won't be released until 3.3 at the earliest.
