My only complaint regarding the payment schedule and development plan - the UI.
The single biggest flaw in this title right now is the UI. I'm hard-pressed to complain about the sheer agility Square-Enix is showing in this game's turnaround. And while everyone can see that the current UI is a weed Square-Enix is committed to ripping out by its roots, I'm still disappointed that the development plan has us paying well before the completion of the new UI.
It's in this area, more than any other, that FF14 proves so sub-standard compared to the other high profile offerings in the MMO genre. That we should be paying for the modest stream of new content is unquestionable. This practice is standard for the industry, and perfectly respectable - the alternative is one of those insufferable cash shops.
But we shouldn't be paying for it while being strangled by FF14's torturous UI. Bleeeeagh.
