Crafting Job idea - Why not? ;)

I had this idea while looking around the FC house and missed paintings of the members, or even from different landscapes around Eorzea. I also noticed most of the sculptures are creepy, nothing against it, just thought we could have some variety and maybe have busts of our beloved npcs at our homes. Yeah, I know most of the things I've listed can be done with the current jobs we have, but it makes no sense to have, for example, an alchemist, painting stuff! I already think a Culinarian being able to craft a dye is something odd, imagine an Armorer sculpting a delicate Minfilia bust in marble. Just no.


So, inspired by Relm from FF6, I came up with this idea: Why not having an artist crafting job?
• Main hand tool would me a paint brush
• Secondary tool could be something like a pottery machine
• Craft paintings
• Craft sculptures
• Craft new vases
• Craft dyes
• Mix dyes and create a new one
• Ability to add patterns to furniture and house elements, like walls
• Ability to add patterns to the gear color
• Ability to dye parts of the gear we usually can't

That's mostly all I came up with. What do you think? Would you play a job like this? I know I would! ^___^

There has been painter class threads already. Its a neat idea but the dye system is already in the game and recipis for these things already exist. I doubt they will do something like this.

I'm all for more paintings and other artistic items, but I think this is too narrow a focus for an entire crafting job.

While this stuff would be cool, I think it would take a big overhaul in FFXIV's systems to allow it, and if such an overhaul did happen I think many people (myself included) would be frustrated that it were locked behind this new job.

And yeah, I know there are some stuff other jobs can already do, I just think it would be better to have a focused job to give us some more options. Some of the recipies doesn't make sense... ¬¬

I know it's a bit too narrow, but it's just the inicial idea. I decided to post here so we can add stuff to this and maybe the devs can think it's possible to add? I thought about the overhaul, but it didn't seem too much of a trouble to me for one of those big updates or something.

As for the new dyes lock, I was thinking about it before posting already. The idea would have an option like the "Request Meld" for the custom dyes or patterns, character wise. For the FC houses, I'm pretty sure most FCs have a crafter and the new crafted items would be for sale normally, they can even be sold with the custom colors and patterns.

As much as I'd love an artist/painter class (I LOVE Relm), I just cant see what it'd really add to the game, y'know? Everything it COULD do, is already done by other DoH's, unless you can "Sketch" monsters that you've defeated into furnishings or something... but even then it's a bit of a stretch

Main Hand: Paintbrush (Carpenter Craft/Repair)
Seondary: Art palette (Carpenter Craft/Repair)

Ability to craft: Special Dyes (Normal and Metallic) (High level's can make Jet Black or even Metalic Red/Blue/Green)

Wall Mounted House Items Such as Posters or Paintings (Filled with Happy Little Trees)

(View Paintings while inside your house for special buffs, (similar to eating food placed inside your house)

I added little ideas in the forum post like schematic drawings for other clases to make things, inspirational buffs for players who perceive drawing inside fc houses like blunt resistance or something of that nature and general crafting buffs.

I thought it was a well made idea and think it deserved a second opinion.

quick note: a while back someone mentioned how it'd be just a grind or something, well that's how the other classes were too, as well as any other class in this game. Not an acceptable argument.

-- Create unique designs that players would take to the Aesthetician for use
- Weapon enchant colors
- Exclusively-made furniture items (NPC portraits, landscapes, etc)
- Exclusively-made FC crest designs
- Exclusively-made FC airship designs/decals

While items like dyes are technically consumables like a potion or meal, I think we'd need to go beyond that to create more worthwhile uses for them. It might be nice to have a consumable item for battle classes that can find a way to provide options for players tackling different battle content. Some rough ideas that might be interesting to flesh out further would be:

Runes

Weapon Runes
-- Paint a rune in the shape of one of the Twelve's symbols. Anyone aligned with that deity can use the rune to imbue their weapon with a temporary bonus effect. 2h duration.
-- Materials would determine which of the preset bonus effects the rune provided.
-- Ideally this could be an avenue for special gear effects like "chance to proc a 2nd attack" or "after 3 crits you unleash a burst of energy damaging the target for the total damage of those 3 crits".
-- Obviously these effects would need to be balanced to be competitive with one another. They would also need to provide a meaningful choice, otherwise why bother?

Ability Runes
-- Paint a rune in the shape of a specific weaponskill or ability.
-- Each job could use these runes to temporarily augment one of their job's skills for a set amount of time.
-- These could provide ways for players to customize themselves slightly. Perhaps a BLM new to level 60 would augment Enochian to last 10 seconds longer while a pro raider would instead choose to augment Sharpcast to work with Fire IV and have a shorter cooldown. A leveling BLM could choose to augment Fire III procs to use a charge system instead of watching all those procs go to waste.

Boss Runes
-- Paint a rune specific to a Primal or raid boss in the game.
-- Any player who uses said rune will gain a temporary damage boost towards that boss for a set duration.
-- Raid bosses would be limited and slowly unlocked over time. Battle classes would have to collect "intel" from defeated bosses and contribute that to a server-wide pool. Once enough intel had been collected then Painters could learn a new Boss Rune to create.
-- I can already hear everyone crying "no nerfs!" and lamenting the eternal descent of this game into the depths of casual ineptitude. But I like this because it can include everyone who is actively doing battle content. Stuck on a boss in Alexander? Maybe this will help give you a small push. Stuck farming 3000 light for your Anima weapon that isn't even as good as your raid drop? Use this to make the grind slightly less wretched. Having an unlucky streak of no atma ever dropping from Fates? Well...sorry buddy, you're just out of luck.

Artworks

It would be great to give players the means to be creative and share that with others. I think there's a ton of legal issues by letting players paint and actually create whatever image they want but it would be pretty awesome if artists could create their own images and sell them. Imagine the server communities this could make with great artists gaining a following and notoriety. You could hire one to paint you something specific or an image of you and your significant other for display in your house. Or maybe someone posts daily "comic strips" for the server to come view in their house each day. That could be really neat.

Now...if that was simply out of the question, then I think there are still ways to make something more than preset paintings to sell. What if you give a Painter a screenshot taken in-game for them to turn into a painting? This would have to be done via in-game commands to make sure only proper images were converted to paintings, but I think it would be nice to have something personalized like this. Maybe you want them to capture your Eternal Bond ceremony. How about a self portrait of you in your favorite glamour set? Or what about an FC pic where everyone gathers together for the image that gets converted to a huge wall-sized mural inside the FC house?

Speaking of murals I really like the idea of Painters being able to have display areas within the cities. Maybe each Grand Company sponsors a Public Works project that requires Painters to create. Completely player-created murals might be out of the question, but even if it was a preset design it could be up the Painters to donate the proper dyes required to color it, which would involve other jobs contributing to the effort and doing battle content. It would be a weekly challenge where a completed mural would provide a small but helpful buff to anyone in that Grand Company. The Grand Company to finish the mural first each week would get a small extra bonus in addition to it.

Anyway...that's all I have for now. These aren't meant to be suggestions for SE, just some fun ways a class like that could work within the game world. I'm sure there are other ideas that would be even better. But man...I sure would like that Relm AF set...

And I'm so happy to see a more elaborate idea than mine! I suck when the subject is about mechanics and stuff like that, but that's a great addition and I don't see why we couldn't merge both ideas! :D I loved the rune and tatoos ideas, seriously!

Wall mounted painting ideas: Other FF games pictures, maybe? Like in Record Keeper?
Sculptures: NPCs, minions, even mounts. Everything that is not necesseraly dark themed.

I think it would be neat to do a quest for a camera, that you can use to take pictures and frame them for your room. This way you can take pictures with friends and whatnot. I don't know how hard that would be to implement and I don't know how if they can circumvent player set qualities for these pictures. Not everyone would be using or are able to use the highest settings.

Just a thought anyway. Get some unique framed pictures on our walls. Give people a reason to go into our rooms than to see all the same stuff they could find in another room.

Sadly if the craft doesn't have some sort of use for actual battle gameplay, it's probably not going to happen.

I think the concept of being able to do some of the things mentioned above would be amazing. Personally (and I know everyone has differing opinions, this is only mine) I would rather enjoy the addition of tattoos/paintings - things that didn't affect my gameplay in any way...just aesthetics. I would support this.
