Tank Killers
Tank Killers
Hey all I was just wondering if this was a thing or not in any other MMORPG since XIV is the only one I've played so far but I think a nice addition to the game would be Tank killers. So when the move charges you need to step out of the way, it can have differ from things like, shows AOE or not, the shape of the AOE and if you need to move away, behind or face away from the boss and if you don't do it, regardless of how much HP you have you will die.
So it's just something as a Tank, besides taking all incoming damage this one we have to do something else besides pop CD.

You mean something like an upgrade to the tank busters? o.O

This already exists in FFXIV, it's just not as common as the straight forward Tank Busters you see in almost every fight.
Titan Ex's Tank Buster, for example, was instant and generated a stacking debuff on the tank. The Cyclops in Arum Vale (as well as most enemies who follow the Cyclops design template since AV) had no AoE display. The Tank had to recognize what move was being used by name or by the animation (one arm in the air = cone attack. Run through legs or sidestep. Both arms in the air = get the heck out of there). In T9, Nael's TB was a double hit. The hit of Raven's Beak landed the Tank with a 10s timer for Raven's Ascent. If they weren't paying attention, they'd get nailed with a magical hit that was often worse than the actual TB. Rammuh's Tank Buster required the tank to manage electrical stacks by tank swapping and running into electrical orbs ... etc.
There's quite a few different types of TB's out there. It's that the vast majority of them all follow the same template for the sake of simplicity and not over-complicating the fight mechanics.

Aside from all the tank busters already that will one-shot you if not prepared.. Maybe if the latency was better.. As it is it's best to leave tank busters with a recognizable pattern for at least a smidgen of opportunity to survive if your connection goes to crap all of a sudden. Besides that the way aoe's have been used in savage/thex so far anyways they might as well be instant kills.

FFXIV's version of tanks are all about mitigation rather than running away. Imagine fighting the Oppressors in Alexander 1 Savage, and you attempted to run from Hyperplasma-thingamabob. If Oppressor cleaved afterwards before you got back in position, your party takes a hit.
