How exactly does the ilvl sync in Frontlines work?

So lately I've been wanting to minmax my gear for whenever I queue Seal Rock. Seeing as it's synced to i150, obviously there's leeway to pick out well itemized pieces (crit/det, and so on) since anything above i150 will do. I was wondering how exactly the sync worked so that I could identify which pieces were the best, and didn't find much information on it. Things like whether ilvl matters (will i210 savage gear sync better than i180 Law gear?) or rarity (will a i180 blue sync better than an i180 green?), and so on.

Based on bits and pieces of information I picked up here and there, and a little testing of my own, I was wondering if you guys could confirm what I'm thinking.

1. As long as the gear is a higher ilvl than the sync point, the mainstat value (str/dex/int/vit) and the value of the higher of the two secondary stats will be set to the maximum for the synced ilvl.

2. Even though gear normally has one secondary stat with a higher value than the other (e.g original stats: 32 crit, 22 det), when they sync, it's possible for the stat with lower value to get boosted up so it matches the higher second stat (e.g, synced stats: 20 crit, 20 det), even though 'normal' gear at that ilvl would look like (e.g 20 crit, 17 det). Basically the lower of the two secondary stats is getting a further bonus.

3. The lower secondary stat only gets fully boosted like this if the original gear was a certain amount of ilvls higher than the sync point. For the ilvl150 sync for Seal Rock, this threshold seems to be i190.

Basically any gear >= i190 will get the best possible sync at i150

i190 Prototype Gordian Ring of Aiming will sync to --- 31dex, 24det, 24acc
i185 Ring of the Lost Thief will sync to --------------- 31dex, 24crit, 23det

Notice that once you go below i190, the lower of the two secondary stats no longer gets that perfect sync to 24, and it gets worse and worse the lower the original ilvl. You can easily check this for yourself by unequipping a piece of gear while you are synced, and seeing how much your stats drop.

Am I correct? This is all probably old news to some of you, but I couldn't find any information on this documented anywhere - so if I've missed out something feel free to point it out.

Maybe I'm missing something of your explaination, but I dont' think that the second is "boosted", I just think that each stat has a maximum cap per item.
(I'm pretty sure that there isn't any cap for the player regarding a secondary stat, for example you can do a full Crit gear)
in that case it seems that for rings any secondary stat can't go over 24.

"Unfortunately" the The Diadem gear (that can give you more than 2 secondary stat per item) won't give you any secondary stat in Seal Rock,
you can see it equipping any the diadem gearpiece and see your stat drop down.

You know how most pieces of gear have one secondary stat that's greater in value than the other? The Gordian Ring of Aiming for example has (44crit + 30acc). If we pretend there was an item like that found naturally at i150 for example, its secondary stats might look like (24crit + 16acc) to preserve that ratio.

But the actual ilvl sync turns it into (24crit+24acc), which means you're getting extra accuracy that normally isn't possible to attain on a i150 item - it's synced stats are better than any item you can naturally find at that itemlevel. That's why I used the word "Boosted", but maybe it isn't the best word.

That said, that much is known and has been documented elsewhere (https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...ve_you_better/), I just wanted to find out what the ilvl threshold was to get both secondaries to the cap. There are slots for me (MCH), where the best-in-slot item might be i180 Asuran gear because it has crit/det, and the higher ilvl options like gordian/last unicorn gear might be badly itemized with acc and sks for example.

I'm a little curious though why I found the threshold to be i190, while that Reddit thread mentions i210 for the i150 Seal Rock sync. Anyway, I just wondered if anyone else could corroborate my findings; It's kind of quiet around here.

Does no one bother with min/maxing for Seal Rock? Are my findings so old that it was all settled months ago already? Optimizing a little, I gained like 200 crit and 100+ det and dropped a lot of useless accuracy and sks and the results have been wonderful to say the least. I wish I had put this set together back when I was running the lvl50 roulette for poetics for the anima weapon too, the same principle applies to any undersized PvE content.

You seem to be slightly confusing what is happening in 2.

The only gear that gets stat boosts in PvP is gear with Morale on it, and in that case the piece's stats get a bonus equal to the difference between the stat's cap at the boosted ilevel and the cap at the items base ilevel.

ilevel sync works by capping the maximum benefit gained from items to that of the chosen ilevel's stat caps for that slot's pieces. The lower secondary stats on items above i150 are not getting boosted; they are just not being capped prior to i190. Beginning at i190, both the higher and lower secondary stats on non-pink gear is higher than the i150 caps.

The i150 secondary stat caps for each slot are

1H Weapons: Det 39(?)/Piety ??/All Others 40
2H Weapons: Det 53/Piety 46(?)/All Others 56
Shields: Det 14(?)/Piety ??/All Others 16
Head/Hands/Feet: Det 30/Piety 26/All Others 32

caps with (?) by them are unverified because there is no i150 piece with that as a high secondary.

Alright, so it's to do with how stat caps work at that itemlevel and not a literal boost, I get it.

So this is a thing right? I'm just curious why there's no documentation on it anywhere. I'm surprised there's no "How to choose the best gear for synced PvP" guide anywhere or something like that. Mainly I want to confirm if my finding of i190 being the minimum threshold to get the most favourable sync is correct, copy-pasting from the OP,

Yes, your ">=i190 means max stats" supposition is correct.

I documented the mechanics and put up a thread with a bunch of BiS sets for i80 sync Frontlines back during 2.3 to 2.5.

The main reason I didn't put up one during 3.0 is because the answer to "What is BiS?" pretty much ended up being "wear the i180 pvp left side and as few accessories with accuracy on them as you can" for every job.
