To Stun Or Not To Stun?

So I am a slow learning Dragoon (dangerous combo I know) and last night I got in a mini argument with a friend over when I should use Leg Sweep to stun lock an enemy (non-boss ones). My theory is unless the Tank can't get out of the frontal attack, I only use it on 360 AOEs. Her response was that you only use that thinking with Palis. Is she correct?

What is the rule of thumb then for other tank classes then?

Use leg sweep pretty much always when it is up, it is a dps loss if you dont.

The only time you dont use it always is in very specific boss encounters where a move needs to be stunned by a tank (few and far between).

Honestly, if you want the highest dps possible, always pop your oGCD's when they are up.

Does enemy use a specific ability that you need to stop?

Save stun.

Does enemy go into some weird berserk mode and is vulnerable to stuns then but not prior?

Is the enemy immune or a glorified autoattacker?

Use that !@#%.

Use leg sweep and SSD pretty much every time they're up. No significant boss or mechanic requires a stun except maybe the adds in A3N and A3S. Every other fight where you "should" save stun is a quality of life thing, not a requirement, just makes the encounter easier, and all those fights are outdated (Ifrit Hard, Levi Ex, etc,etc)
