Classes and Races we want to see. Settle this argument of nonexistent classes!
I'm sure we've all had discussions about classes and races that we prefer to see in the game. A friend and I have had a few of those discussions occurring more frequently since we disagree on which we like more.
The Classes
Samurai vs Red Mage
The general consensus is that samurais will be an eventuality. Samurais certainly fit into the lore of FF, but what about FFXIV specifically? The Au Ra would fit the role of the race responsible for introducing the martial arts of the Samurai to Eorzea. It would be interesting to see how it would play out since the Au Ra are immigrants. Since Revenant's Toll is the area they settled it would make sense to have a Samurai Guild there.
Also, dps or tank? The samurai could be a dps with fast hit rates causing a bleeding effect over time. Or they could be a heavily armored wearing o-yoroi fighting in the frontlines maybe increasing damage as their health points were depleted. In this way, they could be similar to a berserker.
I, however, wanted to see a Red Mage revamped as a fencing Swashbuckler since their main hand is normally a saber or rapier. Red Mage was able to use both black and white magic which I found unique as a class that uses a melee type weapon. It would not be hard to introduce the Swashbuckler to Limsa Lominsa seeing as it's inhabitants and vagrants are (or at one point in time have been) pirates. I can easily imagine a pirate guild appearing on one of the ships docked at Limsa.
The swashbuckler could also be a healer or a dps. The variety of white magic the red mage originally had would make for a capable healer. However, considering the amount of abilities classes can use now are a fraction of what they were in FFXI, it's difficult to believe they will be as effective in FFXIV as they were in FFXI. You have to account for the black magic taking up some ability slots, so reasonably the swashbuckler would more likely be a support DPS.
The classes we agreed on were the necromancer and dancer. The necromancer doesn't fit into the lore of FF, but developers wanted to introduce the class anyways. They remedied their problem by adding the puppetmaster class in FFXI. Since the undead ado exist in FFXIV it's not too far of a reach to add a necromancer especially with suspicious characters like the Ascians existing. Necromancer/Puppetmaster could provide an outlet for players that want to use crowd control abilities to distract and mesmerize enemies.
I find dancer as a class fascinating because it uses TP rather than MP to carry out magic abilities. Traditionally, the dancers are dual wielders, but were effective was healers. I prefer the dancers as healers rather than dps because I would prefer if the class was more effective in its healing magics. Also, I the idea of a healer doing a samba to full health puts a smile on my face. I can't imagine. I can't imagine the armor would be dull either.
I was surprised that they considered Viera for the game, but disappointed they weren't chosen as the new race. I have a soft spot for the Viera ever since they first appeared in FFTA. I think people were apprehensive due to the misconception that there are only female Viera which isn't true. And I like the idea of the lithe forms of Viera towering over Lalafels XD
My friend suggested they add the Moogles as a playable race. While it is an adorable and unique idea, the developers would have to handle the awkwardness that comes with a flying race. They would have to be grounded, yet floating, in the no-fly areas and in the flying maps...would they need a mount? Or, could they just fly without the use of a mounts?
