Do You Incorporate RP Into Your Healer?

So, as you all may or may not know, I make webcomics.* As such, I'm inflicted with a kind of schizophrenia common to all storytellers and writers, where I see and act upon things from my character's point of view.

In this case, Kacho Nacho. He's very much 'real' to me, with a distinct, developing personality which is somewhat different from my own.

When I play my humble lalafell white mage I can't help but emote or say things in character. Whether it be a dungeon run, a FATE, or just helping a stranger with a difficult mob, the other players are mostly meeting Kacho.

That got me thinking. Do other players do this too? When they switch from one character to another do their online personalities change?

I don't do that specifically, but I always try to think about the Lore whenever I see people suggesting changes in any job in the forum. Sometimes, the spells/skills are good but they don't fit the lore nor the general theme of the job people are proposing them to; this bothers me a little.

Yes and no, though I understand exactly what you mean by a 'writers split personality'... as I rp (and used to write a lot) quite a bit outside of ff. I do somewhat "tilt" in personalities based on which alt I'm playing without really thinking about it, and moreso with DFed parties and not so much with FC... my responses, or how I respond, to convo in the party change slightly depending on which character I'm playing. One more submissively responsed, one more neutral, one more energetic, one more apologetic.... etc

At the very least when it comes to glamour I'd like to reflect it as close to the job as possible, ex:

WHM: A natural/ foresty look, so it'll be furs and shades of brown and with more wooden canes. The woad set is perfect for this.

SCH and AST share the same type of "academic and practical" look ... mainly because their gear are shared.

I love your responses! To continue the discussion, does your RP affect your healer class/job choices?

In other words, after you developed your character, did you decide certain healing classes were must-haves and others were definitely not?

My friend actually has a different way of greeting a DF party depending on which of her many characters that she is playing, hahaha. Part of me kind of wants to do the same, but I honestly don't have the heart to give the cold or more stagnant responses that other characters might offer. A simple ellipsis would actually suit one or two of them more than any actual greeting but I could never do that!

Ahh... and I just realised that this was asking about healers specifically, so I guess it only applies to my friend really(....sorry!).

On the topic of rp, not so much healing, just the concept of rp in general, yes. I incorporate quite a lot of rp into my character and the reasons for why he does what he does both in terms of writing a story and in terms of his personality in game. Which makes his current race quite a topic... A story for another date.

When I started this thread I was thinking just about RP and healers in general. After all, I have found healers overall have more empathy and a greater tendency to tell stories than players of other roles.

I'm not certain why. Perhaps it's due to the fact that, by definition, healers have to interact with other players. Whereas tanks and damage dealers have a lesser need to interact with their fellow party members.

But why be so exclusionary? I'd love to hear more about how players incorporate RP into any of their characters.

When I'm out doing content (DF, fates, etc.) I'm not in character, but my character and her story are definitely influenced by her job and role as a healer/white mage, as I always main healer and it just made sense to build her identity around that (it seems to be different with my alts, although I end up incorporating healing into their characters too because I can't play anything else well, lol).

For me, it doesn't really extend beyond glamor choices (which, in turn, are mostly influenced by headcanon... an internal-facing RP of sorts?).
