Server Recommendation
Hey Everyone,
I'm currently on my second month in playing the game and i'm currently using a ninja as my main class. As a lot of people have told me about the "Mudra Lag" I was just wondering what server will give me the best connection since I live in New Zealand. Feel free to give me any suggestions.
Thank you all in advance :)

If you play on a NA server, your server exists in Canada, Montreal I believe.
If you play on a JP server, your server exists in Japan.
Japan is closer to you and would have improved ping time, though you would need to speak/read/write japanese to get the most out of being on one of those servers.
They are working on developing servers for the EU, which, unfortunately doesn't help you out one bit.
Sorry friend.

There already is a server for the EU, all Chaos Data center servers are located in... Frankfurt, I believe.
The move was earlier this year.
Unfortunately there's no Oceanic/Aus server, so a JP server is your best bet.

Thank you both for the reply! Although getting better connection in the japan servers is good, it would be hard to get a good experience and grouping coz i'll struggle with the language barrier. But in regards to the Na and Eu servers, which will be better for my location? Thanks!

You could always try entering Tonberry. It's a JP server filled with oceanic and SEA players, so language barrier won't be that much of a problem. It won't be easy though. You will need to create your character early morning to be able to enter Tonberry. 6am would be fine, for weekdays.

A lot of Austrialan players have been transfering off chaos datacenter because their ping nearly doubled sadly.

Before you choose *any* server. Go to the site ARRstatus.com; note down the IP addresses of the lobby servers, and then the world servers you might consider. Then from your PC/Mac, or from a PC/Mac on the same LAN as your PlayStation Either ping or tracert the lobby server(s) and world server(s) at about the time of day you normally play.
The ping/tracert times will be your guide. Do this one a weekday and at the weekend, checking several times on each occasion, and take the average of the response times as your best guidance on a world with less lag for you. Worlds within the same data center are likely to have the same ping/tracert responses, so you only need to try one per data center.
Theoretically the JP 'data centers' as SE calls them are actually one physical data center in JP, split into several server groups. The same is true of the NA 'data centers'. The EU data center is the only one where there is a single 'data center' or server group at the physical data center location. Either way, you only need to look at the lobby server(s) and one world in each geographical location to get a feel for your likely lag issues. Obviously shorter response times are better.

Masamune used to have a lot of SEA/Oceanic players in 1.0 and 2.0 although I'm not sure if that is still the case. You might try checking out the server's english forums to see.

As stated above, if you can get on it, you will find Tonberry has quite a sizable English speaking population. More over you will generally find the language barrier less of an issue than you would think. I have been on Tonberry for 12 months have done almost everything in the game and I don't speak a word of Japanese.
