Newish player with some endgame questions

Hey! So I have been playing for a little while now and have gotten a class 58 but still feel like a new player as there are a ton of things I still haven't touched upon in this game.Right now I am struggling to like this game even though the endgame looks pretty amazing because I'm basically on a dead server (Goblin) and my static won't let me play a healer even though we have room for one. I have a few questions about the game from an end game perspective that I am having a hard time finding answers to.

1. Since summoner and scholar are part of the same class, can I switch between them freely and still be effective?

2. Are scholar's any good for raids and what role are they good for?

Any answers would be appreciated and if there is anyone else on the Goblin server that wants to group up and level let me know (currently trying to get my level 27 arcanist caught up). Playing catch up is no fun alone :(

Hey I'm a level 32 contour and I still get kicked out of dungeons because they don't want a healer they want a fighter lol I'm not a stranger to ff but shit some people can be cruel and I'm 34 yrs ok lol

Firstly, the two Jobs on Arcanist (ACN) are two totally different roles - Summoner (SMN) retains ACN's DPS role and just changes Carbuncle to 'egis' (minature Primals), hence it's style of play is pretty much the same as ACN. Scholar (SCH) on the other hand, is a healer, and Carbuncle is replaced completely with fairies who act as a kind of automatic healing bot. SCH is much more difficult to play as the fairy's AI is somewhat unpredictable, however their healing powers are potent in the hands of a skilled player. So yeah, if you go the SCH route, you will be a healer in a party. Also it should be noted you cannot freely switch Jobs in a dungeon or raid - you will have to choose one or the other before entering.

And Silentj, don't listen to stupid players like that - especially for those that 'want a fighter'. Conjurer/White Mage (CNJ/WHM) is a healer plain and simple. These players are most likely just wanting to speedrun the dungeon for their stupid tomes and anima crystals, and forget the whole reason those bonuses are even in the game is to actually help new players like yourself, so don't think you're the problem, because you are not, it is them.

If they're too lazy or impatient to understand that, just ignore them and move on, don't let them waste any more of your time, and especially don't let them ruin the game for you. :)

I replied in another thread but do they ask you to dps? Or just kick you flat out without asking. I mean if you have nearly full MP and the tank doesn't need cures you can at least toss out a few DOT's etc.

If you feel your server is dead and really want to play healer maybe you should transfer to another and join another static. Just a suggestion.

1)Yes but you will be using the same stat bonus's for the class on both jobs. Like if you put all points in MND and become a SMN you'll be short like 35-40 INT. You can reset the points though with an item from the GC, its relatively cheap now.

2)Scholars are excellent in raids. They mainly prevent incoming damage and can dish out quick heals using lustrate and Indomitability. They don't heal for alot but it's good insta cast heals for emergency situation. They can also DPS easilly in cleric stance while the fairy heals people who need it. Learn when to be in the correct stance to be the most effective SCH.

Thank you for your detailed response but I think I might have asked the wrong question, my bad! I am aware they are separate roles, but for some dungeons/trials/whatever I may want to be a healer and other a DPS and I don't want to level different classes (already wasted time on ninja, heh...). I was also told that if I put my summoner points in intelligence when I switched to scholar they would still be int, which is why I am assuming I won't be able to just alternate because I will be missing out on mind unless there is some secret I don't know about. I should have phrased things more like that to start but was a bit distracted when making my post, sorry!

You can get an item to respec your points from the GC for 250 GC seals - could carry a stack of those, or you could spilt 50:50 on points or put them in PIE(gets shouted at from everyone lol) or just stick them to one stat and don't bother much with either way. In dungeons the difference won't really be that noticeable.

But generally if you raid on both classes and don't want to switch stats always SMN actually profits more from statpoints than SCH.
SCH is called a "mandatory" in high end raid because it has due to fairy best DPS/HPS value. Crit Adloiqum shield is totally OP as it shields double. As Endikoh states the heals are weak and at level 60 you have with Emergency Tactics and indomability finally 2 skills to make up for weak aoe heals but both are on a 30s CD.
SCH petcontrol and effective usage of shields while keeping you manamanagement up is the hard bit.
If you overshield you run out of mana VERY fast. Be aware of some side skills like Energy Drain to restore MP but also weight it agains a Lustrate/Indomability that you might need. Find out where you really need the shield of lustrate or a Deployed Adlo and possibly a Sacred Soil for yourself and be open for team advices there.
For pet you need to make the EOS/SELENE decision. For more heals EOS provides an AoE regen with whispering dawn, fey illumination gives better heal potency and covenant a better defence. SELENE is to push DPS speed with wind and caress for AoE Esuna/Leech/Exalted Detriment. Most SCH use EOS I am one of the rare SELENE users.

About SMN I cannot say as much (as i don't play it much) just that they also due to AoE skills a really wanted job and you need to decide on fight if you want to use Ifrit or Garuda.

If you want to play a healer then play a healer but be aware an effectivley played SCH or AST is really hard work. I'd also ask your static why they don't want you to heal...

This may have been my favorite post of the year on the forum. Have all my likes....

@Werhusky My static won't let me heal as a scholar because the other healer (who has all healing classes maxed) doesn't want to main heal. They're a good group of people and friends of mine so that's why I'd rather stick with the group than simply find a new static.

Anyways, thanks everyone for the responses! I think that basically answers all my questions now. This game has a surprisingly helpful community ^.^
