So, I just wanted to ask amongst other crafters if this is a good idea.
I made a new shiny Lv. 60 crafting set, and only my Weaver is at Lv. 60. All my other crafts are around Lv. 52-54, and they all use the Artisan's set that I made back at Lv. 50 cap.
Should I be making a Lv. 55/Lv.58 set or will the Artisan's set last me for a while? I was thinking of just upgrading my main hand and off hand, and maybe use my Blue Scrips for the Lv. 58 gear.
I was not about to start melding Materia to my leveling sets, only the ending set(s). Compare the BCS set with the stuff you might replace it with - are those pieces better or worse? Replace as necessary.
IF you have the Lucis, that thing has the same Craft/Control as the level 60 NQ MH. You can upgrade that with a level 57 (or was it 58?) HQ MH tool. If your MH tools are lower, then replace as necessary.
The main purpose of BCS though, is the Master III books. Get the gear if it looks to be an upgrade, especially if you are crafting your own hand ins (across the rest of the 7 classes, you should SB that stuff with ease). Avoid it if it is not an upgrade.
I started in fully melded 2.55 BIS save for most of the mainhands and some offhands no melds on tools.
I upgraded my armor to iL155 with only CP+ melds, mainhands all iL85 or 90, offhands all over the place. upgrading accessories to iL170 now.
You can probably skip the iL58 set. I can pretty regularly HQ most anything with no stars.
Or there is blue scrip gear.
I've leveled all but two of my crafting classes to 60 (cooking is 51 and carp is 58) and leveled using NQ vendor gear. Since I used the material turn-in once I got to level 56, I was (and still am) swimming in blue scrips and have used that too. You don't need to meld anything. Even HQ stuff unmelded isn't really called for. I just made a master level weapon (basically a red scrip turn in) for the token on my (then) level 59 BS with blue scrip gear and nq vendor lvl 57 MH and still got maxed so... You can buy the lvl 55 gear at moghome (or whatever it's called) or get the quest gear.
I think once you understand how the crafting works now then you honestly don't need to over gear yourself. Especially not when leveling. I mean, unless you mean to put in a throw away materia to get the spirit bound to happen faster.
