I've been given both side of the arguments that it should or should not be used. As usual one argues that it does more dps, and the other says the opposite. I've done some parses with and without ToD and sometimes the round with out ToD does more DPS. But because I have played other DPS roles, I feel that it is needed.
Tips?
It's useful for double dotting targets. If you can double dot both hands in a3s or hand + living liquid, you're going to see a dps increase. Just don't sacrifice your rotation to apply it... same goes for any class with dots.
ToD is the 2nd strongest attack a monk has(third if you count fracture, but that cant be used as often for other reasons), so any argument about it being less dps isn't an argument worth paying attention to.
Your numbers probably look bigger because it's one less staggered piece of damage and everything else except Demolish is frontloaded. The only times you shouldn't use it are: 1) if it won't last for its full duration or close to it (so rarely on dungeon trash), 2) you're very starved for TP
Don't be silly. If you have a dot you should be using it.
ToD should always be used. If your TP is hurting then you can start skipping it.
Demo > Touch > Fracture in terms of damage. Even more reason to use it :P
