Why do airship rides cost any money anymore?

You can ride from [A] to Gold Saucer to [B] for free.

Because we need to heavily weigh whether saving that one extra loading screen is worth saving 120 gil. For people with slow computers I'm sure it isn't. Though said people probably skip airships entirely and just pay the extra 100-400 gil to teleport straight there, but that's entirely beside the point.....

Last I checked, you can only go to Uldah free from the gold saucer...

It's called immersion. There is no ride out there, that is free, that doesn't include possible probing, defilement, and/or destruction of your soul.

I just remembered that teleporting costs gil. It's such a minuscule amount I forgot.
