Serious UI issues
I'm a brand new player to FFXIV and am suffering to major issues from the outset! I am lead to believe that there is no UI scaling option and allot of people are saying that the font is very small, well I have the opposite issue!
whether I'm playing on my 50" TV or my 19" monitor, my UI is absolutely massive and I cant see anything because of it. The chat and battle log screens take up over 80% of the height of my screen, and cover all my action bars, with my main action bars on the bottom taking the majority of the bottom of the screen, like someone has over scaled my ui massively. In my config options I only have 1 option for resolution meaning that I cant change it (1024x768) and I'm really confused as to what's causing the problem and was wondering if someone could help!
My GFX card is over the minimum spec as is the rest of my pc by a considerable amount, game graphics are clear cut and game is very smooth, just my ui is huge! Any support would be appreciated as it is near to impossible to play the game which is frustrating as I only just got it!

Please use the FFXIV Config application and copy/past the info from the System menu.
Also, list the make and model of your monitor and TV, the actual size tells nothing as to what resolution they can display.

running windows 7 home premium 64 bit, premium duel core CPU E5700 @ 3.00ghz, 4gig ddr2ram, Nvidea gforce 9500 GT 1gb. intergrated RAMDAC 60ghz 1024x768 resolution 3.0 pixel shader (drivers up to date etc)
System info wont let me copy and paste the info so picked out what I think you'll need. As for monitor I have no ida what model it is, its a old ish (2yr+) dell one I got to replace my old one and has no model number on it. TV is a Samsung PS50C450. Sorry I'm not the technical type as my previous post may have noticed lol! thats all the info I can find

You can't increase screen resolution on XIV since your computer's display resolution is set so low, right click on your desktop and increase your screen resolution. The highest resolution your TV displays is at 1365x768(http://www.avforums.com/product_spec...50-Review.html), and your dell, i'm not sure. Your monitors seem to be preventing your resolution to be higher.

The game is designed to be played at 720p anyway. But imho it's just not enough for all those GUI elements.

I don't think this is a TV issue. My screen blew up so I'm on a TV capped at 1280x768 but the config lets me use any resolution I want (it goes out of range if I try to exceed my TV's capabilities, but still).
I do wish I could shrink certain UI elements, though they're not a huge problem for me.

Some of the UI can be adjusted in size or length.
Chat screen, for example, can be adjusted if your UI layout is not locked (to hold their positions so you can't accidentally mess them up). You have to first click on the chat log window to make it active (like, not transparent) then hover your mouse on a corner of it. A window resize arrow will appear, now you can change chat window's size.
Same goes with HP bar, EXP bar.
If you like, you can also drag the action bar around and find it a proper position, so it does not collide with your chat window.
Also, the new patch added font size options in in-game Configeration => Log settings => Look at Font Size.

you just have to wait til 2.0 then finally after over 2 years the basics will be functional and i bet the ui gets the improvements you need :)

This sounds like a driver issue, either that or a problem with the GFX reading the info that the TV(and possibly monitor) is giving it. I had a lot of problems with a TV once, where i couldn't get any res, and did a lot of research on it. If your TV is 50in then you should have a much much higher resolution option. I've got a 37in Vizio, and i can get up to 1920x1080 on FFXIV. A lot of times if your comp is using the default monitor driver(not gfx driver), and the TV or monitor isn't designed to feed the comp its supported res you need a driver to tell it[gfx] what is supported. So my advise would be to search for drivers for both, install them, and reboot. Then like the other poster said, adjust your res higher. Then try the config utility again.

thanks for the feedback, I didnt realise any of the bars were adjustable and i think that will solve my problem, as the actual res seems fine, characters/visuals are great just this massive ui! as for res options my drivers are fine and up to date, playing another 4 mmo's and various other games with no issues and I check for updates regular, in the config being the idiot that I am I didnt take 2nd monitor out my pc though when trying to adjust the rez lol! sorted that now and more options are there. Thanks to everyone for the feedback will go have a mess about now xx
