Square, what happened to the new smartphone app?

New app is suppose to let us FC chat etc.

It's almost 2016 and we still can't login, and the app is basically sunsetted because Square "had" a new app about ready.

Low Budget?
Maybe they underestimated the frequently changes mobile phones have...

I have a different take on the app than it being a money issue, which in fact that might very be the case. However, back when HW 3.0 first launched I waited patiently for the app to get the latest patches for 3.0 content.Months went by and still no update. I seen the same exact notes as OP about a new app and figured bingo there it is. They finally figured out a way to make us all pay for the app. By making us have to buy the new app to get any of the new HW content to be in it. I was proven wrong as they have since patched the app several times and it seems to be getting HW updates now without paying any money. I still remember reading that they wanted to make a grand ole app with awesome new features that they wanted to charge us for. Things like controlling our retainers and our Market board auctions without going inside the game. Same stuff that wow did save the retainer bit as they don't have them in wow. That might still be coming but no telling when. I for one am glad it's free for now and do not need those extra features enough to pay monthly for them.

On a different note we did get a portal app that lets you do triple triad and spend some money on final fantasy games. Maybe that is it and I just never put two and tow together. The talk before was a ffxiv specific app but when who knows.

They've been working with Libra Eorzea for years, they're already aware of app development AFAIK.

Followed the link from op and they have provided follow up as of Nov. 24, 2015
Which indicates they are still working on a replacement app it appears and they do not have a time frame yet determined.

Square please. I really want FC chatting which the app is going to bring :(

I looked around and hadn't seen any recent communication regarding it. I certainly hope the project hasn't been scrapped as I love the prospect of being able to interact outside of sitting in front of my computer or console. Regardless of whether or not the project has been cancelled, it would be nice to have some sort of update regarding it.

I have to admit that I clicked on the title fully expecting complaints about the ChocoGO app not being available (....yet) °-°
