Non-steam Heavensward compatible with steam ARR account?

Hi! I upgraded my ARR account to a standard account from the free trial version via steam. Now, i'm interested in purchasing the expansion heavensward. however, i cannot seem to purchase it through steam, as it says my region restricts it (strange since steam offers the free trial of ARR for my region.). So, i was wondering if it would be alright for me to purchase Heavensward straight from SE and continue playing my character in the expansion w/o having to start over. Thanks :D

No. Steam and non steam are not compatible together. At all. Ever. You have the steam account. All of your future expansions will have to be through steam and nowhere else.

If you start FFXIV with a non-Steam registration key then re-purchase the game from Steam, your account is not tied to Steam so you can buy Heavensward from anywhere and your Steam ARR can update itself to Heavensward and allow you to play HW content in the game, even though you don't own HW in Steam library.

but if you start FFXIV with Steam from the beginning, your SE account is tied to Steam account and you must purchase Heavensward from Steam.

this you can only buy from steam. you can try getting a steam key for it form like g2a or something

As far as i know your character account isnt permanently linked to steam at all. To use a non steam version of heavensward though you will have to buy a non steam version of "a realm reborn" and link both of them to your SE account on the mogstation. As far as i know this should work.
Dont know if this is possible but you may have to unlink the steam version from your SE account. If this is nescesary tech support should be able to help you.

I'd love it if anyone could confirm this.

Sorry, but no that doesn't work.

The Mogstation defines both the Steam and non-Steam PC version of the game as "Windows". You can only have one of each type of platform on your account (PS3/PS4/Windows/Mac) so if you already have Windows on your account, you can't add it again as you suggested.

You can only add it as a new service account which would result in a new subscription and having to make new characters (you also can't move characters between service accounts).

Sorry, but this is also not possible. If the code used to register the game was obtained from Steam then the Windows portion of that service account will always be flagged as Steam and all expansions must also come from Steam.

There is no way to convert a Steam FFXIV account to non-Steam and vice versa.

I don't know why Square Enix or Steam decided to do it that way, but unfortunately that's just how it is.

Just an Advice ... a good one ...

Don't rebuy ARR on Steam even if you own a Non-Steam Version. The moment you launch the Game on Steam and login with your Non-Steam Account, the Hours in Steam get tracked.
Whenever you get over 2 Hours of playtime, Steam will refuse any Refund in the Future, thus you're sitting on a Dead Key (Which you receive when you buy ARR on Steam)

The only thing you can do with that Key is creating another Account which gets flagged as a Steam Version of FFXIV. If you give the Key away to any of your Friends, good luck buying the Expansions for them since they cannot buy those as they have no FFXIV ARR in their Library.

Oh Boy, the huge mistake I have did by that <_<
