Need to rely on 3rd-party programs/notebooks to gather

Right, so this is a problem coming from way back, obviously. But I thought they would at least modify it enough to be better in Heavensward. I thought wrong.

My problem is that I don't think it makes sense to have to go on programs outside of the game or keeping a notebook IRL to be able to gather unspoiled nodes. I can see the need to make them difficult to find/gather but I don't understand why they make players rely on things outside of the game for it.

Not to mention that the 1 hour window making gathering a race, instead of a relaxing activity is bullshit. But I guess that counts as personal opinion.

Actually is not needed for that if you use the game skills Truth of Forests/Toil of the Pioneer or Truth of Mountains/Toil of the Mountaineer. But certainly may be a little unconvenient for some people wich have a slight lacking on memory or dont want to spend GP's. (so for them it may be good for static node items get wich position they appear once you had got it)

I *really* hate the 1 hour window.

I gather all the time and have a page with the times and locations of the nodes i use most. Do have to resort to an android app on my tablet for all the other nodes. What helps is that all ARR unspoiled node mats can now be gathered by your retainer.

The one hour window requires you being in the area in advance or you risk missing the window. So gathering is a lot of planning these days.

Am I the only one who has memorized the locations, times, and slot numbers?
Not that I did it on purpose but it happened naturally...
But yeah so you don't -need- any of that. I do wish they would put the times in the gathering log once you've gotten it, though.

I do have the slot of adamantite/gysahl greens and Morel/cuprite memorized due to sheer repetition. But my memory isnt good enough to memorise the others.
It would indeed be great if we could get the slot number, node times and location in the gathering log. At the moment its not much of a log.

The amount we seem to need to know has increased in 3.0 over 2.0. Mid 2.0 I started a 1 inch binder and had two note pads for crafting, gathering and gardening. Crafting one was for the rotations i wrote and why so that next patch I could update them for the next level of crafting. The gathering note book was really just part of the gardening note book. Most nodes could be remembered until the end of 2.0.

3.0 is a whole new story. The amount of information on all gathering nodes times, mats, collectibles was out of hand. It is nice for quick reference and one less thing I need to remember. The 2 star crafting took a few different rotations as I upgrade my gear.

In all in this game, there is just so much info that it can't all be remembered and a note book is really the way to go.

but yes, the in-game gathering log should record for unspoiled mats. Show the location instead of ???, and add time and slot# on top of it.

Unspoiled and legendary nodes in Heavensward areas only stick around for 55 in-game minutes each. The regular unspoiled nodes pop twice as often to compensate. Legendary nodes, not so much.

It would be nice if the nodes at least lasted for 90 in-game minutes. Unspoiled nodes would then be active for the same total amount of time per in-game day as their 2.X counterparts and this is still short enough to allow for the possibility of a different node popping 2 hours later, as happens in a few cases.

And I agree on giving more in-game information. If they don't want to make it automatically solve for unspoiled nodes the first time someone hits it (for some reason) then at least let us manually annotate the log for them.

How are they hard to find? They spawn in the same spot at the same times and they not hard to gather if you have the stats needed.
