How do you make a tank angry as a DPS?

So, yesterday I was playing a BRD in Haukke Manor and the tank was level synced. He was a PLD(and we all know PLDs need to rotate their aggro around so as to keep hate pre-40) and I kept putting my DoTs on a single target until it was dead. At first, he didn't mark, so I figured he was able to keep aggro on multiple enemies at once by rotating. He didn't. I got aggro, party died before the first boss fight due to incompetence. Tank blames it on me for pulling aggro like so when he could've kept it by rotating his aggro around. Did I forget to mention he was a 60 WAR?

He marks the targets this time. We get through the first boss. Come 2nd round of Adds and into the basement corridors, tank starts being mad at me for pulling aggro when I'm not; the healer is pulling aggro because he's not sharing Savage Blade and RoH all around town(plus Flash). What I'm wondering is why he's getting angry at me for pulling aggro away from him when I'm not even encroaching on the aggro table for all enemies.

Everyone can be angry for any reason.

If he is WAR 60, and just begun PLD, chances are he might not be used to Flash and PLD Tanking in general. (let's say)

So there is his part to blame, not knowing how to use his skills and rotation. So that the Healer part would be covered, as Healer affects all mobs.

As well now for DPS: as a DPS, you should hit the target of the Tank's target. Then you can use your AoE, DoT, whatever. And that should be even without the Tank's Marks on Mobs.

We mark them for clarity for lots, because more often than not, The Melee DPS is on one mob, different than the Tank, and then the Range is on another one, if there is 3 mobs. What the?

If all concentrate on the same mob than the Tank, not only you would not have this Aggro management problem, you would kill faster, and then one less mob that does damage, is easier on the Healer which in turn, can use more freely his DPS to help kill the other ones.

Then the dungeon or instance would go faster. (and no, it's not to Tanks to follow DPS target, it's the opposite.) and DPS need to watch their aggro color, and then switch if you kill faster than he can handle, to try to help.

If you wipe, you can explain that his rotation was wrong.

Flash is one if the basic skill of PLD. You have 3 mobs, flash at least 2 times. you can then, once the PLD Blind debuff gone after 12 sec, repeat for 6 and then 3. At this point you should have a nice margin from DPS. Once one mob is down, you can flash once for every mob down. That should help to cover pretty much any problems. (I still go from mob to mob to check the aggro and RoH if need be because, you know, some hard-headed DPS, just like some hard-headed Tanks ;) )

If you saw that he wasn't doing it as it should be, don't be afraid to tell nicely. If he overreacts, that's his problem, not yours, just like what happened in your text.

I'd say move on, that was only one case.

There's Tanks that are bad, Healers, and DPS.

Oh, and in order to get the most of savage blade and RoH, you need the Fast blade starter, which gives 0 in aggro. >.<

So, if there is a close call to lose aggro, he would be better to use RoH only, and then quickly do it's 1-2-3 ^^

Sounds like a bad tank who cant handle taking responsibility for not being able to hold aggro on multiple mobs. Bards should be multi-dotting, as should scholars and summoners. Blackmages should be aoe-ing as should machinist at those levels. So this means tanks should be holding aggro on multiple mobs.

yup and this is why I never got into AOE's. A lot of tanks out there including level 60 tanks don't know how to multi target mobs as I call it.... Its pretty easy to do especially lvl 50+ as War. PLD's you start off with back to back flashes then rotate between each target then pop flash again rinse and repeat. As WAR I pop back to back OPs followed by another AOE skil then rotate between targets then pop OP rinse and repeat.

No reason to sit there and spam flash or OP. The reason I pop back to back OP's is to make sure I got the mobs because there are a lot of times when dps don't start on the same mob so to play it safe I pop back to back OP's... Simple enough and happens to work with no problems yet.

No markings usually means "target the monster the tank is targeting". I only use numbers when people are too stupid to figure that out and every single-target dps attacks something different :rolleyes:
Now I don't know how well your aoe is developed in that dungeon (depends on if you hit 30 already or not), but since the aoe strength of ARC/SMN below that level is not all that great, it's not wrong to stick to single-target dps as well.

Oh, and the actual fault lies with the healer. Nothing in Haukke normal should be able to wipe a party anyway.

That it so wrong. Im a tank and if I dont mark mobs it means 'dps all of them freely'. Do u think that dps even bother with checking which add is being attacked by tank if he pulled like 15 of them? If I don't mark and loose aggro on any of the add I pulled its entirely my fault. It I mark tho and I see that I loose add out of order to any single-target dps I just let them tank and eat dirt if healer follows my logic.

"Attacking freely" is the most inefficient thing anyone could do unless, of course, we are talking about aoes. There's a shortcut for targeting what the tank is targeting so having to bother to check which the tank is attacking is no excuse, because you don't have to. If people still attack something else, it's a sign for me that they don't know basic controls.

Yes, I meant aoes and I meant that for weak adds like those after minotaur in fractal u get on the beginning of the last area of a dungeon. And to clarify it - I always mark adds unless the mentioned scenario happens.

My favorite way to piss tanks off (And other Dps) is when I'm playing MCH to use my knockback "Shotgun" blast as a finisher or finishing combo. And anytime they go after it it's already dead by the time they reach it. <Troll Face>

Am I the only one who takes "marked" mobs as an insult? Especially Post 50?

Like i can understand below lv40 but....at lv50+???!!?!??!

I wont even get mad if the dude is undergeared and can't aggro because of it and even apologize for taking aggro, but the moment the tank starts marking mobs its like "AWH HEK NAW"
