Retainer crashing the game

I have a secondary character which cannot summon their retainers. I have tried deleting and remaking the retainer, but every time the game crashes. It feels like an issue with assets, as it is the retainers model loading which causes the program to stop responding and crash. I am not sure how to resolve this issue, because I can summon any number of retainers on the other 2 characters I use with no issues. Very frustrating trying to manage inventory without access to retainers though.
