Raids, do loot drops work the same as dungeons?

Hi,

Sorry for the noob question, but I couldn't find the answer on the Internet, maybe not searching the right thing.

I was wondering, seen as some raids can have up to 24 people, do the loot drops work the same as a dungeon of 4 people where you need, greed, pass and only one person gets it?

If not could someone explain how it works for me?

It's highly dependent on the content, but for new raids that have items that are the best you can get there is usually a weekly lockout. So, it's basically the same need/greed/pass system, but once you lot and receive an item, then you are locked out of obtaining an item from that fight for the remainder of the week.

Now this does not generally occur for primal fights, just 8 man + duties and raids. If the content is getting older or is already old that SE will lift the once a week lockout on items, and then it would work just like a 4 man DF dungeon.

The only fights with lockouts right now are Alexander and Alexander Savage.

Alexander normal uses a token based turn in for gear so its a bit different. You lot on items then turn them in to obtain gear.

P.S. Lockout days reset on Tuesday 11 AM EST. The same time as tomes reset.

Yes. You can need if it's a piece of gear for your class, greed if you want it for another class, or pass.

If multiple people can "need" the item, those players will roll a random number; highest number wins. If no one "needs" the item, it will go to the highest "greed" roll.

As karateorangutang said, some instances have a lockout. When a 24 man raid is released, it has a lockout. You'll only be able to get one piece of gear a week until that content is unlocked; usually the subsequent content patch. For the new 24man raid coming in 3.1, you'll actually be able to get one piece of gear a week as well as one item which will upgrade a piece of gear. So essentially, 2 items a week.

Do note though that in 24-man raids the alliance actually consists of 3 different 8-man parties and each gets its own chest.
