Was in a party yesterday for the fist time since the patch and we got pretty good xp I was happy with the outcome. What I didn't like was how hard it was for our tank (MRD) to hold hate. He was a good player and all so don't just throw the "he was a noob i'm ubber tank" plz. Just seems the game was pitted against him for tanking. We were ~L25 and he would pull each mob...sometimes be groups of 3-4 with the link system.... we lived but mostly thanks to us having 3 mages that can toss cures on who ever had hate at the time and getting their asses smashed in. So partying was efficient in xp yes, but seemed like a roll of the dice if someone was gonna die.
Think the provoke or taunt moves...just need to generate more hate (similar to ffxi's provoke) and i think things would of went alot smoother.
please post if you were having similar problems, or if you found an easier way to handle partying.

We were killing crabs near blood shore 27-29ish in level

It's hard to hold hate at that level, as you don't quite have access to every skill that would help. But I will say:
- Have your main tank smack the mob by himself for a good 15 seconds BEFORE anyone else jumps in
- As soon as possible, get {Intimidate} from the MRD guild, it adds +10 enimity to your actions. Much easier to hold hate.
- use {Incapacitate} to build hate as often as possible
- use {Cadence} to do the same thing
- Have your main tanks learn to heal themselves. {Bloodlust} and {Second Wind} are your best friends.
Really, I recommend that every newer player gets every single class possible to 10-12 before trying to get one to 30. Cross-class skills are essential to doing a good job in this game.

So if your a new player, playing a tank class....its nearly impossible to efficiently tank....unless you have cross class or guild mark bought traits? Seems a little steep

Re: cross classing; it's almost impossible to do ANY job effectively without a good deal of cross-class skills. I'm pretty sure SE set it up that way on purpose. The good news is that it takes very little time to get to r10 or 12 in most jobs, which will give you most of the cross-class skills you would need at a low level.
If you want to tank efficiently, take a look at Gladiator - you'll need a lot of their skills. -

This game is not one that I would recommend starting as a tank. I did it, but there wasn't raid content back then, and I would have been a useless tank in a raid. -

how do they expect people to group up and party once they do reach the levels to do so? Would think the basic formula for a party shouldn't require cross classes to work well enough to be efficient. Healer Tank Damage Damage for small group. The tank should be able to tank using only the skills from that class efficiently, any cross skills should just be a perk...like you take less damage or can evade more...but holding hate? that should be built into the main class being used right? Level up a healer class first so you can tank as a gld or a mrd later in life?....what?
I understand that the current state of the game your suggestions are right on target. I'm just saying that they shouldn't be developed in this manor in the first place.
Waiting 15 seconds for the tank to build enough hate seems like a waste of time...its like Watch me fight....and then you can come play afterwards.

The way hate works in this game makes it really difficult to get back when you lose it (unless you know exactly what you are doing) so the best plan is to just not lose it in the first place. Those extra few secs at the beginning of a fight work wonders for that.
Between MRD and GLA you have all those that you need. You're going to have to do some GLA ranks to get good at holding hate, if you really want to be a real tank in this game you might as well accept that now.Quote:

I really don't think it's a skill issue at this point.
Depending on what you were fighting and how you were going about each fight there are several issues I and others have come across.
The first thing is that mobs don't like being far from their spawn points... and by far... I mean a few yards. While fighting molting mitelings the other day my girlfriend and I could barely pull them out of their idle range without them giving up halfway through the fight to return to their territory, when this happened they dropped all previously accrued enmity and the enmity gain basically started from scratch, so whoever hit next had hate.
I've read similar issues with mobs that link, not being processed as claimed correctly for sections of the fight meaning certain people wouldn't be able to earn and keep tp long enough to use it.
I can't imagine these are anything but bugs.
