Au'Ra: Earrings?

i might be a bit behind the ball when it comes to Au'Ra, but i don't get how Au'Ra are able to equip earrings without ears (and also, why can't we see the earrings we equip on our Au'Ra? you'd think if they can wear them they would be just as easy to see as any other race)?

I think the earrings are draped from Au'ras horns. So I'd guess earrings are less EAR rings and more HORN rings?

A friend and I were looking at my Avi, and she was like: "How does he hear stuff?" I explained that the horns act as their ears, and that they basically use them as antenna receivers. The first thing that popped into her head about it was that they'd be uncomfortable to sleep on, which they probably would be... but the first thing that popped into my head during the discussion was: "Wait... where do they hook their earrings?" I scanned around my Avi looking to see if he hooked them into his clothes or something, but I haven't seen anything.

I've seen my guy's earring hanging from the horns. Not sure if this applies to all horn types, but they're at one of the points closest to the head. No, I have no idea how I "pierced" them or how they're hanging there, but they are. (I also always have long hair so can't even see them on any non-miqo'te, so I stopped caring about earrings glamours lol)

As WhiteArchmage said, earrings hang from a part of the horns that is very close to the head.
That makes them completely invisible with some horn- and many hairstyles :)

but yeah, I'd really like to know HOW they hook them up there. Piercing a hole in soft skin is kinda different from hammering one through a solid horn..xD especially if you remember that they hear with them! The process should be equal to bursting someones eardrum..:eek:

Yeah they are hidden basically...they're there but really hard to see. Another reason I didn't stay au ra

Lore-wise, the horns are the ears for Au'ra. The head models for Au'ra don't actually include ears, so the earrings really do hang from the horns (and the horns connect where the ears are supposed to).

As for the actual physiology of it and how it works, I'm sure my Au'ra is pretty much deaf. It makes for some very awkward roleplay.

If I remember correctly, Auri horns are connected directly to the brain and are how Auri hear. The horns, which are not the solid bone that most people think (they are actually hard flesh), pick up vibrations and transfer them to the eardrums directly.

Which makes you wonder if they are damaging their hearing putting those earrings in. With a human ear you are piercing the tip of flesh that helps funnel in sound waves but isn't exactly part of hearing portion of the ear. With full bone used for vibrations, any change would alter what is heard.
