Fishing Collectables
Heya everyone,
I have a question concerning collectables for fisher.
Yesterday, as 55 and 56 lvl fisher I collected many collectables in Coerthas (Ice Picks and Sorcerer Fish) and in Churning Mists (Noontide Oskars). It was really easy, never lost a catch.
Yesterday evening, it did not work anymore. I catch every fish NQ and HQ, but I am unable to get even the "easiest" Collectable Fish as HQ. NQ works fine, but each time I seem to have hooked a HQ one, it says "The fish gets away".
The weird thing: I use the same EQ, I melded some Gath+ Materia to it and got a better Fishing rod (lvl 57) but it just does not work. Tried 5 different locations now and at each location I had that problem.
I tried to strip perception gear as some ppl suggested so I dont get "too big HQ fish", but it did not work either, even with ~390 Gath and like 150 Perc I failed. Normally Perc is at around 300.
Silly 1000 char cap...

No matter how, I did not get a single collectable since yesterday evening. And yes, I use the correct bait, weather was fine, too.
I'd appreciate some helpful comments as I am really lost at the moment.
Thank you very much

Its called RNG, please look forward to it...

Well, maybe it's what everyone says, but...it is more like 100% yesterday until evening and 0% since then. Is that really normal? It's not that I did 2-3 tries, more like 20-30. Even some experienced Fishiers in my Linkshell could not help me with that. Their answer was like "never had that when I fished for collectables".
Apparently I do get them hooked, I just cant get them out of the water anymore...

yea, what Sartori said.. it's a big fat scooping of RNG, and it's hit or miss. I've gone streaks where I couldn't catch a fish, and then suddenly I catch everything the next hour and it's all HQ.
P.S. you can get around the 1000 character limit by editing your post after you make it

The problem with the random number generator is that it isn't all that random. One would expect some sort of statistical distribution of numbers that fall neatly along a bell curve, but instead the random number generator in FFXIV seems very prone to runs of luck (good and bad) rather than fairly normally distributed outcomes.

IT's definitely RNG.
Before I could do collectibles, I caught those icepicks nonstop.
Then suddenly BOOM zero.
It's like they're afraid of the Collector's Glove. Silly fishies.

Like everyone else says, there's no mechanic in the game that would cause this except bad luck. I don't really have any good idea of what the expected gathering rates should be for fish at various levels of gathering and perception; fishing is much more vague than mining and botany. In any case, if there is any chance that something can fail, then it is possible for it to fail repeatedly. I've not personally had very much good luck with fishing collectibles. Mining and botany seem so much more efficient.

Heya,
thanks alot for your comments. I thought it could be something like a cap for collectibles but your answers told me otherwise.
I will live with it :-) and I appreciate your help on this matter
Cheers

Reminds me of clams for the last HW fishing rod. I had streaks of up to 10 windows without HQ, and windows where I caught 3-4.
