“I’m going to train you!”

So, there’s this guy I know on my server who is really fond of using parser addons to view everyone’s dps output. The other day he contacted me and said that he was going to train me because I made some bad mistakes as a bard.

This actually broke my heart a bit. I’d managed to get to level 60 in game, with an ilvl of 191 and I’ve just been put off doing anything with bard again because of this guy’s attitude. He made it seem like I’d committed some cardinal sin because my DPS was too low and I didn’t have a fixed rotation (it differs depending on the situation so its not fixed like most people probably keep too.)

So, reason to the thread... I've gotta ask the community this: Have you ever come across people like this?

If he's using a parser to grief you, then you need to report him.

Why are you so upset over this one ego stroker? You apparently had been doing fine for ages, so who cares what some parser guy has to say?

More than likely, this is some lonely dude's way of courting you. Otherwise, he's some narcissistic troll who believes his views on your playing hold some importance to you or anyone else he's approached.

Sounds like he could give useful advice, but it's unfortunate that he makes you feel like shit.

There will always be players better than you, but few have the good grace to actually give advice on how to improve and do it without making it feel like they're doing you a favor.

If you can stomach hearing him out, I'd just ask him for what he thinks is wrong and take it with a very large grain of salt. Take a really good luck at the build and tweak it to your own playstyle. You may improve, or you may find it doesn't suit you. Either way, you'd have gained something.

If you don't think he's a good teacher for you (he probably isn't), just flat out tell him that despite his good intentions and (apparent) skill, he's being overbearing, condescending, and does not have the right attitude when teaching someone to play their class.

Or, just ignore and /blacklist or /report as above. The parser is actually a bannable offense (although ironically not because its a measuring stick but how it obtains that data).

Ah, someone with a parser. I've met someone like this before. Best thing to do is to just block him. You've made it this far, so you must be doing fine. If there's something wrong, then you'll figure it out.

People that approach strangers and put them down so that they can elevate themselves have their own issues to work out. Just blacklist him. Report him, if he's harassing you. He's using his parser irresponsibly.

Until we actually know the details of how you play, I personally can't say if your mistakes are bad to the point of being detrimental, or improvements that can be done here or there.

Just taking what you said for face value, it doesn't seem like he was trying to put you down, though it doesn't necessarily mean he could've come across better.

If he's being a tool and he's dumb enough to mention in the chat log that he uses a parser, report him.
