Name Change Questions

Undoubtedly this has already been answered before but my googling skills leave something to be desired.

The mog station says that name changes can only be done once every 24 hours, is that character specific or account wide?

Looking to change my name, with the intent of changing back someday but I wanted to get a placeholder so nobody can take it.

It's account wide. So you can only change the name of ONE character per 24 hours.

If it's a matter of transferring and needing to change a name though, you might be able to work around it... I'm not sure...

I'm not sure I understand the situation. What does the lockout have to do with making a placeholder character? If I understand you, you want to change the name of Character A, but then make Character B with A's original name to "preserve" it. Right? I don't believe changed names get taken out of circulation so I'm not sure what it would matter if Character A (or the account itself) is prevented from doing a 2nd name change service in 24h. It should have no impact on creating another character on your server with the name you want.

The only reason I can think of where it would matter is if you already have the max number of characters per server so you wanted to do two paid name changes to achieve your goal. In which case, like what Terrini said, you'd only be able to change one name per day.

Oh it's just an issue that Hyperion is always on lockdown except for really early and I'm not sure I care enough to stay awake that long or wake up that early.

Like you thought, the only work around is if you transfer to another server and the exact name is in use on the new server you get a free/built-in name change. IE, "Terra Branford" on both servers counts, but "Terra Branford" and "Tera Branford" don't, etc. Also make sure you spell the name correctly, otherwise you'll have to pay the fees again(happened to a friend, wasn't a fun two weeks for our group...)
