[dev1004] [dev1002] Using the Echo in Quests

Hopefully without spoiling anything, I'd like to point out that The Echo is one of your character's most interesting abilities. Currently you can have flashbacks in story quest cutscenes and that is all. But I think it should play a more significant part in questing than it already does.

It would be interesting to be able to use the Echo to tell if NPCs were lying to you, or to uncover secrets hidden in Eorzea when you travel through the world.

If in travelling to a certain area, the Echo could activate and render a cutscene, which in turn activates a quest.

Such events could add an extra dimension to exploration and also add some variety to the implementation of quests.

Really, that's all yours does for you? So far (up to the rank 26 mission) my echo has allowed me to watch past events (several times), speak moogle, hear the voices of the elementals, and speak sylph.

But yeah, it would be fun to have the echo affect other parts of the game than just the main story quests.

My problem with this idea is technically everyone in your ls, party or around you that isn't an npc has the echo :/

I want to be able to turn into a dragon with the power of the echo!

OBS: No need of the "[]" at tags. Remove them so devs can see your feedback when they track the tags ^^ When you add the tag correctly it will show as auto-completing and automatically adding the comma.

Indeed a good idea! ^^ But i'd like a different option...like echo having the quest effect as default (see past and talk to beast tribes) but also having exclusive effects based on your guardian. Right now the guardians are too poor...they need to affect more things and echo should e one of those!

Allowing you to play in instanced areas during echo also would be much more interesting than just sneaking people during cutscenes...like sometimes you fighting people to force them to speak up or helping some NPC in a try to make his mind about something. I won't tell which quest shows this, but if the character interacts with you during echo he will be affected at reality so this opens a wide fan of option regarding how to use echo! ^^

I like it but I see it's implementation in this regard: Quests that do not involve Echo (like current Quests) and Quests that involve Echo and will be available after you receive it (after the Rank mission). The Echo quests would be linear or have some limited options but they would use Echo as part of the story line within the quest.

to me sounds like a Zelda thing.
I wouldn't mind seeing echos of the guildleve as per intro cs suggests.
Looks like they puting more into wuhat ffxi started with wings of the goddess.

its an ability your character finds out they have during the course of the story, its kind of like having a flashback and being able to critically analyze it.

a little plot devicey but also neat.

Yea, I remember this was suppose to be a big deal when the game was coming out, even had it in the opening movie. I hope it didn't brushed under the rug when the old dev team left. Time travel always makes for, interesting concepts in terms on quest and world interaction.
