I havent seen one drop in a map since i switched over to hw maps. I only do dragonskin though.
Are you still getting them from maps? If so, im curious which ones. -

You can get unhidden from the HW maps, I got one from a wyvern the other day.
I have like 400 of the damn moonstones between all my characters, one of these days I'll turn them all into better crowned pies and desynth them. -

If i did get them, i personally wouldnt keep them due to storage space being as limited as it is. I would probably just destroy them.

You may also want to consider trading them in for Better Crowned Pies. These used to be the best way to level CUL desynth at high levels, and while that's no longer the case, they're still usable for a given level range and may sell for a decent price.
Or, for that matter, you can USE them - they are a food that grants +2 Spiritbind, which is worth considering if you do a lot of spiritbinding for Materia. -
