I think 11 used Yalms as well, which was basically 1 character walking step....I think.
It kinda does use real world measurements.
Yalm = yard
Malm = mile
Fulm = foot
Ilm = inch
Ponze = pound
Onze = ounce
well I think FF11 uses yalms, though not very sure.
Your love is less than 1 nano yalm away from my heart.

Although to many it probably seems odd that the American units would be used as a starting base for a Japanese game, but it does make some sense due to the commonness of the units outside the U.S. and how using metrics would seem bland given they are already used everywhere in the real world. It helps give Eorzea more flavor.
Yeah, US customary units are basically medieval fantasy units for the rest of the world, since we and Liberia are now the only countries not using metric (sigh). [OK, England/Canada still use them in very limited contexts]
A yalm is exactly two short Lalas. Just kill 2 and lay them head to toe to measure.
Edit: I guess you don't have to kill them..
They're pretty squirmy though, so it helps.
