Ballista?
I love PvP and quite honestly, maybe because I grew up with it and am fanboying about, but nothing beat Ballista in FFXI for me. The new king of the hill style I've seen in many PvPs lately were never a great aspect and always seemed shallow. Granted Ballista had it's fault but as a game I personally always found it a blast, no matter how many times it was done.
I was curious on what the community thought of this. I'm surprised by the lack of detail of a PvP mode as detailed, if not more, then Ballista at this day and age...considering how old FFXI is. Is it because it was just that bad and I have this minority taste in such? All I know is although the newest PvP mode is by far an improvement to the others...its still bleh.
Also another thing I loved about Ballista is it was within the server. Granted I love this new system of going cross servers for giant battles, but there should be an option for open world PvP sign ups where small teams on the same server can compete.
Sorry if its another rant, I was very curious on what the rest of the community thought of this, as I've thought of this subject every time I've qued for PvP in this game.

I played Ballista a lot back in XI; would I want it in FFXIV? I'm leaning towards "yes," but there are a few things that would have to be changed (or not, if you feel that way).
The main draw to a Ballista system for a lot would be that it is 2 teams, not 3. There were 3 "companies" (nations) in XI as well. Each match was one nation vs another. The odd nation out got auto-sorted. I fail to see why the devs won't or can't do this here.
The other thing is Ballista actually encouraged turtling (something I've seen players both here and during matches rage about). One death gave everyone in the Kill-shotters party in the immediate area the ability to "score." Obviously that means you don't want your teammates to die. What would happen for some time in a lot of matches is long, drawn-out staring matches between teams in the beginning, seeing which team would send over the sacrificial lamb to get ganked (not that that's how it always played out). All the while people spend time using the special emote to dig in the dirt for objects to score with if they did get Gatebreach and temporary items. The upside to this though would put more emphasis on staying together as a group (which players now have issues doing). Away from your party when they kill someone? You miss out on scoring opportunities. Kill someone out on your own? Grats, only you can make use of Gatebreach.
Seize as it stands now has some elements of Ballista (though Ballista could be participated in 3 PvE zones, making for some variety), but I would be lying if I said I wouldn't want to see the actual thing appear here.

Yeah Ballista...along with FFXI as a whole, as much as I loved it had insane problems. Still though...it was interesting. Far more interesting then PvP now. As for Ballista going with Grand Companies...honestly I wouldnt want them associated with it for once. I would like to make my team freely without that restraint, which I've had problems with myself. I actually like the PvP system linked with Grand Companies for some of the other PvP options but it would be nice to see a few without.
Honestly I'd love the option of having just a simple full party of 8 people vs 8 people in Ballista
