That's actually a good question. Hopefully we'll find out on the upcoming Live Letter.
They couldn't be bothered to give us an OpenGL renderer, why would anyone expect a Metal renderer? If anything, it's on Transgaming/Nvidia to transition Cider to use Metal in lieu of OpenGL. I don't remember anything about Yoshida's message to OS X users that they were doing away Cider / actually give us a native client.
Did you read this a while ago?

Yes I did. My tone was hostile in my previous post. I am sorry.
It's just they were unwilling to invest in a proper renderer for OS X. That's what's upsetting.
That still says to me they aren't doing away with the Cider middleware. Yoshida went out of his way to not mention anything about the possibility of a native client. So, even if we do get a version that targets Metal, we'll still be dealing with the overhead of D3D to Metal. Maybe once El Capitan hits, we'll hear something.Quote:
As Kasuga has previously commented, the FFXIV team will be also be hard at work on updates for the Mac version, and will continue to push for the best performance possible. With the adoption of DirectX11 for Mac, and the replacement of OpenGL with a new graphics API in Appleās next OS, the fundamental gap in current performance issues may soon be eliminated.
I just hope we hear something soon. Mac users are being kept in the dark for too long.
Hasn't it been a shit ton of problems with mac client also?
So, now that El Capitan is out, what's the veredict?
With the release of El Capitan it would be nice if Square at least gave us an update on the client. The silence has been deafening.
