Yes, this has been probably reported countless times, but i always encounter this stupid message if i use the forum and are speechless every time.

RANT: @SE are you retarded? Never in my life did i came across a forum that lets you type in more than is allowed and secondly no other forum i ever used had such a limit... So if your goal is to upset paying customers, than goal accomplished!

Blame the idiots on the Beta forum who started spamming it to hell and back around phase 2 - SE implemented such restrictions there in an attempt to bring some order to the chaos. So when the game launched, the official forums (which up to that time had been for the original 1.0 version of the game) also had these restrictions added as well, possibly in a attempt to forestall any repeat of that nonsense by players just joining.

Besides, it's easily worked around - if you want to post something more than 1000 characters long, just post a few sentences, then go back and edit the post and type the rest of it in. Not that hard to do.

Like I just did. ;)

Also, this is SE's official forum - they can enact any rule or restriction they like. They could make it that you could only post once a day or something, or every post will only show up after a GM approves it. Really, this isn't a fansite - SE can run it however they wish.

I'm not confused on who own, runs the forum/site, i simply state the fact that i never encountered such a limitation before. I'm also more angry about the fact that the few times i used this forum, i often have like 1200 chars and the forum tells me about this after i try to send it, while now i'm forced to somehow cut down my text that i already wrote. It actually encourages me not to want to write in this forum.

I think that is such a bad practice that yes i post here and give feedback as a customer.


PS: I actually laughed the first time i read this message, since this is from the company with most ludicrous beta access system i have ever seen.

With this kind of sentence, I mean, taking back the subject to "Boohoo, I'm angry and I pay a sub.", I hope they add an other restriction just for you : maximum 0 characters long.

You know, we're all paying customers. And pay a sub doesn't give you the right for being disrespectfull.

It's annoying, yeah, but I generally just type out my entire post in my first go. Then I select the majority of my text, copy it, and then delete it. I submit, then immediately hit edit and just paste whatever I copied. It's irritating, but only takes a few seconds longer, really. I've honestly come to just expect weird limitations/security from SE. I've had to reset my password at least five times pre-Heavensward because my power would go out or I'd go to someone else's house to play, and it would register the new IP as "suspicious activity" and lock my account. -shrugs- That's just how SE rolls.

That being said, isn't there also a post per day restriction? I wasn't on the forums during 1.0 or Beta, but I would think that the post number would work against spam, not restriction the actual character limit.

You also have no right to tell him how to state his opinions..that is also disrespectful.

SE does have that right...not you however. Perhaps commenting on the topic is a good idea instead.

Yeah i was mildly annoyed while writing this post and yes i was hyperbolic on purpose, like most users that post "RANT" in front of a statement. So yes, if read literally i was "disrespectful" to SE as a company, however did i assume i will hurt some individual's feeling? Heck no, if at all i expect eye rolling or hopefully a "yeah he is right, we should change this". Deliberate "Ranting" is a form of expression, similar to irony or satire. The idea is to-be over the top, so attention will be drawn to the thing you rant about.

The main reason why i added the rant at the end, is the fact that this limit is so out of place and poorly implemented, that i did not see a point discussing if this limit is necessary or properly implemented.
