Chimera Trial?
In point of fact, I already have a 120 weapon (thank you silver chocobo feathers from RAF), making the necessity of quickly completing the relic chain not quite as urgent.
So I am following the relic weapon quest chain and have hit the part of needing to do an 8 man trial that it says I use DF for (A Relic Reborn: The Chimera). Except it is not listed in DF!
So is listing it in PF the only way I can hope to get past this step? Somehow I see this being an issue... as in if it isn't listed in DF, there must be no rewards for players who have gone by this step... and THAT can mean a LOT of waiting possibly over many, many days. Somehow I have many doubts there EVER may be a time when 3 other DPS, 2 tanks and 2 heals are online at the same time and on the same stage in the relic journey! Yet obviously, many HAVE gotten by this step... need some advice on the how!
There is a later stage where one needs to do Amdapor Keep, can I do that one BEFORE I pass by the Chimera one (yes, I do have it unlocked)? AND do I have to have the unfinished relic weapon equipped for the 3 primal battles towards the end of the chain (would be my assumption)?

It actually is listed in the DF (make sure you're looking at the correct tab; for example, don't look at Heavensward trials). You'll get players that queue for 'trial roulette' to assist you.
-
It should be listed as a trial.
Also, I would recommend going in with 4 friends or solo. The quest does not require you to actually use the lower ilvl weapon and the boss is so ridiculously weak now (designed for ilvl 50), that you can probably solo it if unsynced.
If you're lvl60 and close to ilvl170, you can probably run Chimera, and ampador solo.
-
Did you actually unlock it? If I remember correctly you have to talk to an NPC or something first at the location of the trial in Coerthas.
-
It didn't used to be on DF, after it was added, you do indeed have to go to Coerthas and unlock it. Same with Hydra and Thanalan

Ah, I shoulda realized there may have been an unlock thing (in my defense I DID read some posts saying that it was NOT listed in DF so one HAD to form one's own group), the quest says to go to a location where it happens, failed to put 2 and 2 together (senior moment).
I WISH ilvl 160, am 54 (i116) and have yet to hit the HW MSQs. Some pals at the same 54 I am have much better gear, I think it was that they hit 50 long before HW dropped, so thay had time to advance further than I (as in gear from the HW MSQ line which they started on 6/23).
I do find certain things quite difficult... like this beast daily FATE that has one pretty tough min-boss and 4 adds; it's way deep in Amalj'aa land so I gotta solo it and even using sleep more than once, can't seem to beat it. I was working on the big guy and sleeping the adds, but at one point before I got the big guy down, sleep lasted about 2 seconds!
-
There are diminishing returns for crowd-control, yeah.
For the FATE, I would party with another person who wanted to run it (either a tank or a healer). If I didn't have a friend who ran this with me, I'd run it with a pet chocobo and fill in the healer role.

Reminds me that I need to deal with training up my Chocobo. But should I not train it as a tank?
-
A tank is probably better for your blackmage. However, you will probably want a way to heal it for those boss fights. Consider putting a little in to both the tank and heal trees if you're hunting as a dps.

I was only i110 when I completed the preliminary relic stuff and my bird and I pretty much had to solo the required FATEs. This was just a few weeks before HW went live.
So you have the 3 Crystal tower raids open? If so go pick up the weekly quest in Revenant's Toll which nets you your choice of one carbon upgrade item and then get the carbontwine from that to make your magitek weapon 130. It will last you a long time. As it is I strongly suggest just setting the relic grind aside and finish the msq so you can get into HW areas. As it is you outgear them all and will have a pretty easy time in them especially if your chocobo is at least level 7-8.
Make sure to feed him krakka roots several times a day in your FC stable and also curiel roots when you're out in the field.
Besides, there is a NEW relic coming out and the one you have just begun the grind for will be only good for a glamour.
