To aid or not to aid
Would you rather help a player in need out of the goodness in your heart? Help them only if you benefit? Or pass up the chance all together?
Obviously there are various reasons and situations etc. But respond as if it's a complete stranger in the open world. Also if you feel like commenting about it, when entering a dungeon where you are the only veteran with three new players viewing cutscenes, what do you do?
However you may answer these questions is completely up to you! Thanks for the read and response ahead of time.
I help to the point it isn't toxic to my own progress. If it's something small they want my help with to kill or a quick fate, I'll be a first responder because good feels from aiding someone in need. If it's too time consuming then I'll pass, unless I'm in the mood to take time out of my day to go out of my way for somebody I don't know. In the dungeon instance, I'll teach simply cause I see it as a good investment in the future of ffxiv player aptitude.

If I see the person making a valid effort into something, I'll help, but if I see someone doing something entirely wrong or just complaining, I won't help him and I will laugh at him.

Is the stranger dead? That Good Samaritan title ain't gonna earn itself.

I don't care if I have to drop something I'm in the middle of to do things, I'll always take the time to assist others, even at a loss to myself.
So far I've gone as far as to spend a good 10-15 minutes three manning Go,Go Gorgimera (and wipe a few times) because someone wants to do it. Done that particular case three times now.
And also the typical pulling aggro or throwing heals on low HP people, raises, dungeon runs, etc.

I've been asked many times for help to que a dungeon by random people, being a tank it happens. If I am not logging out any time soon, I will gladly help them. I have also helped some, out and about either with a raise or cure. Remember seeing this one guy it looked like he was doing an alex map he was getting beat down pretty good and almost dead, I was running on by when I noticed he was on his last sliver of health. At the time I had cure cross-classed on my PLD so I threw him a few cures and he beat it, thanked me and we went on our ways.

Mostly all depends on my mood. Sometimes I'll help someone, and if there is something I need then its a bonus for helping. Other times I'll only do it if I need something from there. Sometimes, I'm just in the middle of something I don't want to stop mid way and just won't help.

Depends if I'm occupied already, I won't drop something and inconvenience others to help someone. If I'm not doing anything though, and I'm not in a, 'I just want to chill and do something other than FFXIV' mode. I'll help someone out.

I've helped so many newbies I probably hold several world-firsts in explaining job mechanics, dungeon tips, quest locations, etc.
-
I help people if I notice them needing help. I'm pretty unobservant, so it won't come up too often. And I also won't go sprinting across the map, changing my Job to raise someone. That isn't me not wanting to help them, that's me assuming someone closer by will do the job and then I've just wasted a bunch of time.
In dungeons, I tend to be silent. I try to help by doing my job right and stepping up if someone else isn't. ((If the Tank loses agro and doesn't bother trying to get it back, my dragoon can take the heat better than Black mage or a Healer, that sort of thing.))
I also sometimes sit in a lowish level Fate as a healer and keep the people actually doing it from dying, with my level 50 heals.

If three new kids are in a dungeon and I'm the only non-new one, I'll help them. Why wouldn't I? Whatever penalty I take wouldn't be worth it (unless they're trolling or something, but let's be optimistic).
If I'm in the open world it really depends on what I'm doing currently...if I'm nearby and someone asks for help and I'm not busy I don't mind going over and giving them a hand.
