Who Nerfed Alexander?
With such difficulty experienced in doing the Binding Coil of Bahamut and having still not cleared the Second Coil, I am shocked at the ease to which I completed the normal version of Alexander.
In the 4 levels of Alexander, the parties that I was in had a grand total of only 2 wipes. Yeah, you are not reading this wrong. Just 2.
With hundreds of wipes in the Coils of Bahamut that I endured, why is Alexander so easy by comparison?

Because of normal mode. Go do savage

I think you are looking for Alexander Savage. Normal mode=story mode, designed so almost any halfway competent group can complete it. This was an intentional design choice known for months before Heavensward launched.

Binding Coil of Bahamut was designed as the hardest thing in the game.
This was before savage was a thing. This results in a lot tighter fights even if they have been nerfed.

Many people complained about lore being gated behind difficult raid content (BCoB, SCoB, FCoB) and have been asking for a "story mode" for that content for a long time. SE released Alexander as a two tiered raid as a result.
Alexander (Savage) is the equivalent of Coil. Alexander (Normal) is Raid Lite⢠status.

Wasn't just complaints about "gated" lore content but also the way they nerfed the hardest content after 2 patches. It made the experience of trying it at it's hardest a missed opportunity and people didn't enjoy that either. With Normal and Savage now being a thing the content doens't have to be downsized so that you turn coil into a "normal mode alexander" rather both content can stay as is and also odds are you won't be seeing echo added to savage mode so that that challenge will only remain, only your increased IL can help to increase your odds of winning.

I think you're confusing something here. Alexander normal is CT raid difficulty. Alexander savage is Coil difficulty. There is no 3.0 equivalent of Savage second coil. Unfortunately they probably won't ever release any raid to the degree of difficulty of savage coil.
