Doesn't it always form the weapon for whatever the job was that you started as?
Think I remember getting the Dragoon Spear while I was a Warrior before. -

I'm fairly sure it's whatever class you're on as you start.
However it's class dependent, and the new jobs have no base class, so I assume sword and board is the genericest of generic adventurer looks. -

I checked it in the inn, and you get the same thing as a DRK, so I'd assume the AST will also get it.
It also happens if you're a crafting or gathering class. XD
Every other class shows the appropriate weapon though. Even when I actually ran Prae as a scholar, it showed the book and I most definitely did not start as an Arcanist. -
