Has this been confirmed yet?
I remember hearing somewhere that the PS3 users may be outta luck when 4.0 rolls around, which seems to imply the PS4 would still be in there. I imagine SE would likely shoot for keeping at least one console on board for quite awhile yet to keep the game's demographic as wide as possible.
Yes it is...the only thing not for sure is the life of the PS3. They said that PS3 will go at least through 3.x...after that they were going to see if it would be holding them back at that time and then decide.
All but certain. PS3 on the other hand may get cut when 4.0 gets here.
I see, thank you for the replies. One thing I did notice was that the PS4 still has DX9, but I think we can assume it would run the latest DX version smoothly, or do you think the ps4 can't handle it? (not sure about PS4 being able to handle the latest Direct X versions in general).
It's been discussed before, but the PS4 doesn't use DirectX. DirectX is just a graphics API. The PS4 has two of its own graphic APIs, a low level API called GNM which should offer a Vulkan/DX12 like environment and then a high level API called GNMX which is more akin to DX9/11 and OGL. So you really can't look at this stuff from a DX perspective since it doesn't really translate to the PS4.
With that said, I wouldn't expect the heavy tessellation or stuff like HBAO+ or the higher quality shaders to make it's way to the PS4 version. This is simply a limitation of shader performance on the PS4 while running at 1080p at a respectable framerate. They might be able to tune performance here and there and add some of the stuff in (maybe at a lower shader quality/precision) but again I wouldn't hold them to it. If the drop of the PS3 allows for higher quality textures and more complex models, I would expect this kind of stuff to carry over to the PS4 version as this is mostly a memory storage issue.
