Diagonal backpedalling

This is bothered me for sometime but I always just played around it. When you turn legacy controls, it disables backpedalling which is great, but when you go diagonally back (back left or back right), you still back pedal. which makes absolutely no sense.
is there way to turn that off as well? or is there a reason for diagonal backpedalling that I can't wrap my head around?

Yes, you have to bind "Move <Direction> / Turn <Direction>" instead of "Strafe <direction>", then you'll be able to freely run diagonally backwards. Got me at first too.
