I Love My Carbuncle! Don't Make Me Give Him Up!

The Arcanist is such a fun class. The game play is highly enjoyable. Most of all, I love my carbuncle. He's such a cute guy that I don't want to him give up!

Basically, I can't see my Lalafell suddenly deciding to summon primals, especially since the story I've been following has me working with the Scions to defeat them.

If I remain an Arcanist without progressing into either Summoner or Scholar would I be able to do the later (50-60) content?

I'm talking as a DPS, not as a healer. If healing were required, I'd switch to White Mage.

You must use your Job crystal. You're a burden on your parties if you don't, and some equipment is restricted by Job as well.

The SMN storyline explains egis.

You might be able to glamour your summon as carby in the future.

Aye, you for sure wont be accepted into groups higher up. Good news though, there's strong evidence that Carbuncles will be glamours for your Egi's. Bad news, it might be a couple patches away or longer.

Soulstone is a requirement for any kind of group play past 50 (it really starts to hamper you after level 30 if you're not using it really). It gives you access to the spells that you need to be able to output appropriate damage.

Sadly, lvl 50 is as far as you can go as an Arcanist, since starting lvl 51 to 60 all you get are skills for your job, not the class...
Someday they might apply the pet glamour, tho.

Carbuncles look very nice. Titan is okay too I guess. Garuda and Ifrit are total disaster.

It's kind of my complaint with most things in this game. 90% of everything is visually over-designed to the point of being meaningless. Every time we get into anything Allagan I just kind of groan because I know it's going to be a horrible polygonal soup of glowing, clashing nonsense. All the Baldur/Valerian gear looks great because it's simple and doesn't have a million spikes all over it. It's the Rob Liefeld problem all over again.

I would argue the Egis are under-designed. They have literally no detail to them.

My sister saw me playing the game, looked at Ifrit-Egi, and asked "What is that?". Not a surprising question because seriously it barely looks like anything - it's resemblances to the Primal it's based it ... is stretching at best.
