You have to both register and claim the prize manually at the NPC next to the tournament board, starting and end of the tournament respectively.
so does this mean that it wouldn't show up in the general info for the gold saucer, so I'd have to reregister for each tournament like I did for the first time I signed up?
Yeah, if you had participated for the same tournament previously (For example Manderville Tournament), you will have to register again the next time the same tournament is available.
