I was in the middle of the rank 30 archer quest and the game just stopped when i talked to an NPC named Pascaleret.
I didn't really need to talk to him, I just wanted to and when I tried he didn't respond back and then I couldn't really do anything else except move my camera and talk to my LS. I couldn't even open up the menu to log out.
So i ended up closing the game down and logging back in to finish off my mission.
Just some advise to anyone about to do that mission. DON'T TALK TO HIM!

Upon further review of your comments regarding your troubles with speaking to Pascaleret, it seems that this matter may need to be looked into further, so I move this thread from "Technical Support" to "In-Game Bugs." Which character did the issue occur with?

Party or Solo:
If you were solo when the issue occurred, please write "Solo". If you were in a party, please write "Party". With alliance, please write "Alliance."
*If you wrote "Party" or "Alliance", please also include the number of members.
NPC Name:
Name of NPC that your character was interacting with when the issue occurred.
*If you were not interacting with any NPC, then please write "None".
Monster Name:
Name of monster that your character was battling against when the issue occurred.
*If you were not battling against any monster, then please write "None".
In-Game Time:
Please list the in-game time that the issue occurred.
Steps:
Detailed steps on how the issue occurred.
*Please try to include the following details.
•What you were doing when the issue occurred. (Example: Battle, mission, quest, crafting, synthesis, etc.)
•Please do your best to write using official terms for item names and action names. Please avoid any abbreviations or improper terms.

I had the same problem. It was in the quest instance, after completing the requirements for it. Trying to speak to Pascaleret caused the game to freeze most functions. Received no errors, but had to exit the window. I didn't try typing /logout command, but it happened again after logging in and attempting to talk to him again.
Windows 7 pro 64 bit

Around 6:30 p.m. CST 3/7/11
Happened twice, avoided him after third log in to finish quest

Nav, have you changed your font in FFXIV Config? If so, turn it back on to the default one. I had a lot of issues with this when I used my preference of font. There's a thread about it in this forum somewhere as well. I couldn't even do behests after a while, it just kept getting worse and worse. :) Try this to see if it works.

Steps:
Talked to the NPC during an instance, within the rank 30 archer quest at Owl's Nest in Coerthas.
There wasn't any message stating there was an error, but i couldn't open up the menu, or move my character. It just looked like my character was waiting for a response from the NPC. So i closed the game down by force with task manager, i didn't know about using text command like /logout.
