Windows 10 - Now Unable to Launch

Following my installation of Windows 10 (hearing from my FC-mates that they experienced no issues running FFXIV on Windows 10), my game no longer launches. I'm trying to run it through DirectX 9 (because my computer is about 5 years old and it was never made for gaming anyways) and all that happens is a black windowed version of FFXIV appears and the message "FFXIV has stopped responding" soon follows whenever I attempt to launch the game. I've pieced through a couple of posts already regarding Windows 10 crashes, but the advice from users seems to be all over the map. Most people seemed to think uninstalling and reinstalling the game was necessary, so I'm willing to try that, just wondering if there are other steps I should be taking in the mean time (as my computer takes awhile to install the game).
