Concern about the Economy upon PS3 launch

I'm just a little curious how this is going to work out.

When PS3 launches and we have an influx of new players; Old players will have gil in the masses. Double - Tripple digit millions ( 7-9 figures )

Everything is obviously high priced as we speak to keep up with what players have accumulated. New players will start out with nothing and their only means of money making will be trhough 3k reward Guild Leves.

In order to buy a low level weapon or armor they will have to dish out 20-100k+ per piece. Not to mention gear worth 500k-1million+ Level 20-30+

What IS SE going to do to balance this out? And I don't believe that a massive ban of RMT is going to work as it did in FF11 as the players are the ones accumulating this gil.

IE: Would SE impose some sort of gil wipe? Everyone loses 50% of what they own to compensate for a fresh and fair economy?

Nothing really cost that much right now so the new people will be fine They will be able to find cheap weapons regardless, No one is gonna charge 200k for an common weapon w/ the mats being like silver ingot oak lumber and steel ingot those items are cheap them selves so... everyone will be fine.

That is like saying they should wipe everyone's gil in XI cause 10k new people started today and they will be at an disadvantage.

Hard to say what's effect Materia is going to have on the economy. There's also the fact that the supply of some stuff is going to be reduced thanks to the changes in recipes.

We're also going to have new (small) gil sinks with chocobos and airship travel. And since repairs are going to be cheaper, we'll probably see more gil spent overall for repairs.

There's also going to be a slew of mid-rank gear made available by the grand companies and the low level dungeons/ifrit battle. That stuff won't cost anyone money at all.

A "gil wipe" is out of the question. It would cause more problems than it would solve.

No, absolutely not. They wouldn't risk taking player's gil unless said player was involved in shady practices.

What will happen at an influx of new players? There will be huge demand for low level starter gear, which will drive the prices of said gear up sky high. Crafters will try to capitalize on this in droves to earn some extra money.

The new players will look at the prices and say, "F that! I'm going to craft my own stuff or just survive till 30 or so on crappy gear." And they will. Eventually, supply will trump demand and the prices will fall to a reasonable level.

The market balances itself out (in this case). There's no need for intervention.

I'm all for a gil wipe honestly lol. The same thing happened in FFXI, when RMT were selling 1 million for $1 each, everything sky rocketed in price on even common items, to the point that HQ items were LESS than NQ item because people had hundreds of millions to throw around (it also made it obvious who bought gil.)

In FFXIV, the game itself hands you millions basically that things that are already expensive, will always be expensive because the playerbase has the gil to throw around, new players won't but they added NPCs that sell the basic gear progression for fairly good prices.

All they need is to add gilsinks before the PS3 release and everything will stabilize.

gil wipes is a bad idea. i mean the question of how will new players handle the prices of gear now? easier than we did originally when things like buc shirts and harley actons were running 15mil in the wards. we made due and kept playing.

This. By the time PS3 launch comes, there will likely be some PvE content that requires a good deal of money to take part in. Remember Dynamis hourglasses?

They are already working on this with the upcoming crafting changes as well as the reduction of how much things sell to NPCs for. They are also introducing new gils syncs already via rental chocobos and airship passes.

The crafting changes are also a massive nerf to gil entering the game. There will be a lot less people skilling up on things they only plan to sell to the NPCs now, not just because of reduced NPC buy prices, but also because of a lot less output from recipes and a lot less "parts" materials in general. Hell, if you farmed dodo and other skins for leather crafting, via leves or from the monsters themselves, you could make a pretty good amount of gil just crafting skins to leathers, to vamps to sell back to the NPCs 99 at a time. This will mostly be gone.

My guess is this is the first of many gradual changes to create a more balanced economy. Keep in mind that the influx of new people will also cause crafters to start making lower level weapons again as there will be demand for them again, and with the competition between crafters going on, the price should stabilize to being a small profit over mats to make for most common weapons/armors.

FFXI went through this several times and I saw the same type of threads when Xbox version went live. If the ecconomy is tuned, it will work itself out. Also, keep in mind that new players can easily hit level 10 with the intro weapons and armor, and like could hit 20 on most DoM, DoW, and DoL jobs with minimal gear purchases. This gets them into leves that pay out a lot more, plus several other new quest that can pay out pretty nicely.

A lot of Linkshells are also hurting for membership these days. Many existing linkshells will be anxious to recruit new blood and will be helping gear members up. Hell, I am sure I will be making any armor I can for friends that join for PS3 release, as well as new linkshell members.

If a piece costs 500k for level 30 gear and you don't have 500k, you're doing something wrong. I have had 1m, down to 200k, up to 700k, and now at 500-600k, over short periods of time, and I'm just now level 34. I had 1m in my early 20's. I don't farm or craft, I strictly adventure, and I buy a lot of crap.

And for a player just starting, that's like saying they deserve astral rings at level 10, just because they can equip them at level 10. You don't get them at level 10, you get them later.

I know of 3 people who have quit the game that are still pulling for the game to become a huge success. these 3 people each have 100-400 million gil each and they are looking forward to a time when the game is doing great and they can sell their gil to gil selling websites. Thats just 3 people I know and its over half a billion gil. Wonder how many more plan to do the same.
