Two days of [11006] [20641] [20643] and crashing
Built a new rig. It runs Windows 7, and there is nothing else on it except FFXIV (i.e. nothing running in the background). I downloaded the client. It started updating. After a while, I got the [11006] [20641] [20643] error message. I tried again, same result. Sometimes it will update for a while before crashing. Other times, it will crash almost instantly. Sometimes, after babysitting many, many attempts, it will get all the way through the patching process. When I try to run the game, however, it crashes in the middle of the first loading screen without an error message (save the windows log: APPCRASH: ffxiv.exe).
This has been going on for two days.
Apparently, this issue or issues like it have existed for quite a while. As such, the internet is filled with potential fixes. I think I have tried most of them. Here's what I've done (that I can remember and in no particular order):
-deleted old patch files, folders, etc. from "my games" folder.
-ran as administrator
-ran in compatibility mode with xp (sp3)
-turned off firewall
-connected Ethernet cable directly into modem (tried different modems and routers too)
-changed DNS servers
-turned on SSL 2.0 and 3.0 and TLS 1.0, 1.1, and 1.2
-changed/rolled back NVIDIA drivers
-clean install of windows 7 with new download and install of client, etc.
Related note: The update process takes an excruciatingly long time. Worse yet, as the update process goes on, the download speed decreases at fairly steady rate. Usually it bottoms out around 2 or 3 mb/s, but I've seen it go as low as .5, I think.
