Forging Spirit Quest Not There

Not 100% sure of the name; it's the quest given to you by Synsomething at the Bonfire area in Thanalan that allows you to create materia when you've done it. When the main story took me there, it wasn't available, which I found odd, but thought I might it unlock later when I joined a DoH class. I'm now at level 50 (WHM) and a level 19 Weaver, and still nothing there. Not even a locked quest. I've even done the quest to meld materia, but I can't access the quest that lets me make it, and I feel a bit embarrassed not employing materia at this level. Am I doing something wrong? Is there something I've missed?

Looking at the quest line, seems like you had to do Forging the Spirit (convert gear to materia) first to be able to do Waking the Spirit (meld materia)
So you probably already have it.

I double checked, and you were right.

I'd tried to use "convert" before to check but it said "could not execute" for one reason or another so had dismissed that option. orz Thanks!
